George Dawson Jr

George Henry Dawson, Jr., husband of Cathy J. (Nieman) Dawson, passed away on Monday, May 27, 2024 at the age of 66 in Brenham, Texas.

George was born on May 26, 1958 in Harlingen, Texas to George Henry Sr. and Lorraine (Johnson) Dawson. He was baptized in 1958 and confirmed in May 1970.

After high school graduation he went on to obtain his Bachelor's Degree in History and Political Science from Corpus Christi State University and his Master's Degree in Library Science from North Texas State University.

George was united in marriage with Cathy J. Nieman on August 14, 1982 and they were blessed with one son, George H. Dawson, III.

He will be remembered by his family and friends as a beloved son, devoted husband and loving father who enjoyed reading, jigsaw puzzles and playing the guitar.

He served as a Director of Refugio County Library and as a Director of Brenham City Library. Additionally, he will be remembered by many as a Partner with HEB and Walmart.

George was a member of St. Peter's Episcopal Church, the Rotary Club in Refugio and Brenham, Sigma Chi Fraternity at the University of Denver and the Texas Library Association.

Preceding George in death was his father, George H. Dawson, Sr.

Survivors include his mother, Lorraine Dawson of Corpus Christi; wife, Cathy Dawson of Brenham; son and daughter-in-law, George H. Dawson, III and Rachel Dawson of Hickory, N.C. and his sister and brother-in-law, Deban and Tom Flexner of New York, NY.

A Memorial Service will be held at St. Peter's Episcopal Church at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 8, 2024 with Fr. Stephen Whaley officiating. Interment will follow at the Columbarium at the church after the memorial service.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made in George's name to Hospice Brazos Valley.
