Georgia Doris Etzel Tubbs, 88, of Round Top, passed away October 16, 2012 in Scott and White Hospital in Brenham. A Memorial Service is scheduled for 2:00 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 25 at Bethlehem Lutheran Church of Round Top with Pastor David Nedbalek officiating. Georgie was born October 3, 1924 in Round Top, the daughter of Dennis and Ella Levien Etzel. She was baptized April 12, 1925 at home of parents by Pastor Falkenberg and confirmed November 26, 1937 at Bethlehem Lutheran Church. On June 11, 1949, she married Mervil G. Tubbs, who preceded her in death in 1998. She lived in Houston from 1941 to 1983, when she returned to the Etzel Farm in Round Top. Georgia attended Round Top Elementary School and graduated from LaGrange High School. After graduating from Southwestern Business College, she was employed for 15 years as a secretary for Ingersoll Rand Co., in Houston, the company who built large compressors during World War II. Active in Boy and Girl Scout organizations, she was also a member of Martin Luther Lutheran Church, the Bethlehem Lutheran WELCO, and the DYD Club. She was instrumental in forming the Round Top Area Historical Society and Museum. She received the Fayette Co. Republican "Golden Girl" award in 2012. Gardening was a favorite pastime, as well as spending time with family and friends. Survivors include her daughter, Linda Gayle Tubbs Amann of Brenham; grandchildren Cameron Amann and Cory and Leanne Amann; great-grandchldren: Kamrey Christian Amann, Cidnie Ciera Rose Amann, Draven Scott Amann, and Skyler Lee Amann, all of Brenham; beloved niece Gloria Schwarz Hickey; sister-in-law Doris Tubbs Inglehart; nephews David and Bruce; brother-in-law George Dunn, nieces Cathy and Evelyn and nephew Ken. Preceding her in death were her parents, her husband, Mervil, and sons Larry Glenn Tubbs and James Dennis Tubbs. Memorials may be directed to Round Top Historical Society, Hospice Brazos Valley or a charity of choice.
