Nell Neumann passed away on May 14, 2015 at the age of 88. A visitation time will be held from 10 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. on Monday, May 18, 2015 at Memorial Oaks Chapel, followed by a graveside service at Prairie Lea Cemetery at 11:00 a.m. Pastor Phil Fenton will officiate. A reception will be held at St. Paul''s Evangelical Lutheran Church following the service. She is survived by her husband of 62 years, Alvin Neumann; daughter, Debra Canady and son-in-law John; grandson, Jed Canady; siblings Mitzi Thornton, Calvin Kettler and his wife Lorene; sisters-in-law Lehlia Kettler, Daphne Kettler, Gladys Brauner, Emma Neumann, and Lorena Neumann; and by numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents Ernest and Minnie Kettler; siblings Irene Kettler, Melvin Kettler and wife Virginia, RLee Kettler, and Weldon Kettler; and brothers-in-law Bob Thornton, Johnnie Neumann, Raymond Neumann, and Edwin Brauner; and parents-in-law Otto and Margaret Neumann. Nell was born in Rehburg, but spent most of her childhood years in the William Penn community. She lived in Brenham most of her adult life. Nell worked at the St. Anthony Laundry, which later became Fabric Care, for more than 40 years, taking a 6-year leave during that time to be a stay-at-home mom. Nell enjoyed her bookkeeping duties, but the part of her job she liked best was interacting with and helping customers. That is what she missed the most when she retired at age 75. Before health problems limited her activities, Nell was a great cook and an accomplished seamstress. Her favorite leisure time activity was crocheting. She made many beautiful items, from bedspreads and tablecloths to slippers and Christmas ornaments. Several of her completed projects were pictured in Crochet World magazine. Nell''s faith was important to her. She was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church in William Penn during her childhood, and had been a member of St. Paul''s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Brenham since her marriage to Alvin in 1952. She was a devoted mother and grandmother, and treasured the time she spent with her grandson Jed, as he was growing-up. Nell was greatly loved, and will be greatly missed. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to St. Paul''s Evangelical Lutheran Church, or to a charity of your choice. Funeral arrangements for Nell Neumann are entrusted to Memorial Oaks Chapel, 1306 W. Main St., Brenham. 979-836-4564. To post a tribute to the family, visit www.memorialoakschapel.com.
