Gertrude "Gertie" Carbaugh, 89, wife of Lyle Edward Carbaugh, died December 5, 2014 at Gazebo Terrace Convalescent Center. Funeral services are scheduled for 10 a.m., Tuesday, December 9, 2014 at St. Paul Lutheran Church of Rehburg, with Pastor Denise Seymour officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will be from 6 until 8 p.m. Monday evening at Memorial Oaks Chapel. Mrs. Carbaugh was born March 30, 1925 in Houston to Arthur F. and Mary S. Griffin Schroeder. She was baptized July 12, 1925 at Bethel United Church of Christ in Houston by Rev. Theordore Wobus, and confirmed there April 2, 1939 by Rev. H. H. Schowe. She was a graduate of Sam Houston High School in Houston. On Sept. 12, 1948, she married the love of her life, Lyle Edward Carbaugh in Houston, and the couple enjoyed 66 years of a loving marriage. During WWII, Gertrude served her country readying U.S. planes for combat service, though she was saddened that their missions would include destruction of life and property. Gertrude was a Past High Priestess of the Amani Court, and Ladies Oriental Shrine of the Arabia Shrine Temple. Other memberships included Eastern Star and the Burton Lioness Club. Along with her family, she was an active member of St. Paul Lutheran Church of Rehburg. Her many talents included sewing, gardening, and creating beautiful crafts for family and friends. Known as "Honey" to her grandchildren, she treasured time spent with her family. Survivors include her husband, Lyle Edward Carbaugh of Burton; son and daughter-in-law Larry and Karen Carbaugh of El Campo; daughters and sons-in-law Linda and Eddie D. Moore of Frankston, and Lila and Troy Steele of Brenham; grandchildren: Christopher Carbaugh, Kimberly Carbaugh, Hayley and Brian Frink; Abigail and Matt Gore, and Chad and Jessica Schubert; great-grandchildren: Tristan Brantley, Tanner Gore, Tatum Gore, Chad Schubert, Jr., Ethan Schubert, Peyton Schubert, Kaylynn Frink, and Ben Frink. She was predeceased by her parents and brothers, Arthur F. Schroeder and Charles Schroeder. Serving as pallbearers are Eddie D. Moore, Jr., Matt Gore, Brian Frink, Rick Schroeder, Jay Yarter, and Chad Schubert. Jacob F. Yarter and Roy Dueitt will be honorary pallbearers. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to St. Paul Lutheran Church of Rehburg, or to Hospice Brazos Valley, 302 E. Blue Bell Rd., Brenham, Tx. 77833.
