Gilbert Otto Michael Weiss, 90, of Brenham, died Monday, November 16, 2009, at Kruse Memorial Lutheran Village in Brenham. Mr. Weiss was born August 28, 1919, in Brenham, to Robert C. and Christina Limmer Weiss. He was baptized April 18, 1920 in Emmanuel Lutheran Church of Greenvine by Pastor L. Hoefer and was confirmed in Salem Lutheran Church of Welcome by Rev. Jacob Appel. Mr. Weiss attended Wesley School. On January 26, 1941, he was married to Pearlie Drews in Brenham by Pastor Arthur E. Hartmann. Mr. Weiss served in the Asiatic-Pacific Campaign during World War II. In 1946, Gilbert, along with his brother Delphine, formed a business partnership. Their company, Weiss Brothers, supplied sand and dirt to residential and commercial contractors in west Houston. Gilbert s sons, Randy and Garry, continue running the family business in the west Houston/Katy area today. Mr. Weiss was a member of St. John s United Church of Christ in Burton. Survivors include sons, Garry Weiss and wife Ann and Randy Weiss and wife Connie, all of Katy; grandchildren, Greg Weiss and wife Tana, Genny Hull and husband Rick, Eric Weiss, Jeremy Pitman and Dwayne Pitman and wife Emmy; great-grandchildren, Grayson Weiss, Griffin Weiss, Riley Hull, Sutton Hull and Cayden Pitman; sisters, Martha Patrick and Laura Zuehlke. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Pearlie Weiss; brother, Delphine Weiss; and an infant brother, Delmus Weiss. The family will receive visitors from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Thursday, November 19 at Memorial Oaks Chapel. The funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, November 20 at St. John s United Church of Christ in Burton with Pastor Glen Schoeneberg officiating. Burial will be in Prairie Lea Cemetery in Brenham. Memorials may be given to St. John s United Church of Christ in Burton.
