Gladys Steinbach Steinfeld, 79, widow of Charlie Steinfeld, Jr., died March 30, 2010 in Bluebonnet Hills Care Center in Brenham. Gladys was born March 31, 1930 in the Gay Hill Community of Washington County to Louis Christian Sr. and Lena Noerenberg Steinbach. She was baptized July 27, 1930 by Pastor Adolph Walton in the Friedens United Church of Christ in Gay Hill, and confirmed October 18, 1942 in the same church. She attended Gay Hill area schools. On June 28, 1953, she was married to Charlie Steinfeld, Jr. by Pastor William Wuerz in Friedens United Church of Christ in Gay Hill. Mrs. Steinfeld was a faithful member of Grace Lutheran Church from 1960 until the time of her death. She enjoyed being with her family, and was a talented seamstress and homemaker who enjoyed cooking, canning and baking. She delighted in baking chocolate chip cookies for her five grandchildren, whom she adored. Survivors include sons and daughters-in-law Dale Louis and Nanette Steinfeld, Steven Wade and Kendall Steinfeld; daughter and son-in-law Sandra Kay and Richard Liere, all of Brenham; grandchildren: Heidi Ann Steinfeld, David Alan Steinfeld, Stacy Helena Liere, Spencer Ann Steinfeld, and Dustin Wade Steinfeld; sister Miriam Gaskamp, brother-in-law, Leroy Steinfeld, and sister-in-law Leatrice Kapchinski, all of Brenham. Other relatives include special nephew, Gary Gaskamp, as well as numerous other nieces, nephews, and cousins. Preceding her in death was her husband, Charlie Steinfeld, Jr.; parents, Louis C. Sr. and Lena Steinbach; father-in-law and mother-in-law Charlie Sr. and Lillie Gaskamp Steinfeld; brother and sister-in-law Louis C. Jr. and Floy Steinbach; sister and brother-in-law Lillian and Howard Payne; brother-in-law Garrett Gaskamp; sisters-in-law Emma Bell Steinfeld and Rosalie Wunderlich; brother-in-law and sister-in-law Raymond Sr. and Carrie Mae Wellmann, and sister-in-law and brother-in-law Alvin and Bernice Buro, sister-in-law and brother-in-law Raymond Buck and Ella Mae Steinfeld. Funeral services for Gladys Steinbach Steinfeld will be held Saturday, April 3, 2010 at 10:00 a.m. at Grace Lutheran Church with Pastor Matthew Jacobs officiating. Burial will follow in Prairie Lea Cemetery. The family will receive friends and relatives at Memorial Oaks Chapel Friday evening from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. Serving as pallbearers are David Steinfeld, Dustin Steinfeld, Gary Gaskamp, David Steinbach, Charles Wayne Buro, Randy Steinfeld, Clarence Steinfeld, and Raymond Wellmann, Jr. Memorials may be directed to the Altar Guild/Parament Fund at Grace Lutheran Church.
