Glenn Bentke

Glenn Albert Bentke, 68, of Brenham, husband of Dorothy Bentke, passed away January 27, 2012 in Scott and White Hospital in Brenham. Funeral services are scheduled for 10 a.m., Monday, January 30, 2012 in St. John Lutheran Church of Prairie Hill, with Pastors David Hansen and Virgil Pecht officiating. Burial will follow in Prairie Lea Cemetery. The family will receive friends and relatives from 4 until 6 p.m. Sunday afternoon at Memorial Oaks Chapel. Glenn was born in Brenham on July 8, 1943 to Herman Sr. and Emma Moehlmann Bentke. He was baptized and later confirmed in St. John Lutheran Church of Prairie Hill, and married Dorothy Pelkemeyer in Zion Lutheran Church on October 3, 1964. A lifetime member of St. John Lutheran Church of Prairie Hill, Glenn was retired from Sealy Mattress Co. after 43 years of dedicated service. Glenn spent many years serving the youth of this community while coaching his sons in baseball. He enjoyed participating in area hardball and softball programs, and offered his services umpiring games and tournaments. Survivors include his wife, Dorothy Bentke; sons and daughters-in-law Michael and Allison Bentke and Matthew and Rachel Bentke; grandchildren: Shane Bentke, Reid Bentke, Brooke Bentke, and Drake Bentke; sisters Alma Place, and Mary Jo Schulz and husband Ervin; brothers and sisters-in-law Raymond and Verna Mae Bentke, and Herman Jr. and Donna Bentke; sisters-in-law Rosie Bentke, Christine Bentke, and Betty Pelkemeyer, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives. He was preceded in death by his parents, Herman Sr. and Emma Bentke; brothers Alfred Bentke and Melvin Bentke; brother and sister-in-law Bill and Georgia Mae Bentke, and sisters and brothers-in-law, Ida and Johnny Kaechler, and Lois and Fred Ruemke. Also predeceasing him are his mother-in-law and father-in-law, Herbert and Esther Pelkemeyer. Serving as pallbearers are Phil Bentke, Terry Schulz, Larry Schneider, Mark Bentke, Don Williams, Rick Federwisch, Jason Roemer, and Neil Wellmann. Honorary pallbearers are Wayne Fuchs, Tom Bentke, Greg Tank Niensteadt, Ray Rodenbeck, and the late Ronnie Roemer. Memorials may be directed to any favorite charity.
