He was born March 20, 1935 in Wesley, Texas to Otto and Emma (Fritz) Vierus. Glenwood was baptized April 14, 1935 at Salem Lutheran Church of Welcome, Texas and confirmed April 10, 1949 at Friedens United Church of Christ, Washington, Texas.

Glenwood and Betty wanted their children to grow up in the country and were excited to bring them to the Salem community where they had purchased a few acres and an old Victorian style home. There they raised their children and helped and encouraged their 4-H, school and sports activities. Glenwood enjoyed sports and was often seen coaching their various baseball or softball teams.
Glenwood farmed cotton and corn for many years and the family would always pick a bale of cotton each summer. He then began ranching with his commercial cattle herd and loved to see the new calves and being outdoors.
Glenwood served as a Director of the Soil Conservation District, member of Son’s of Herman, Southwestern Cattleman’s Association, served on Church council/committees and was a devoted member of Salem Lutheran Church.
Glenwood was a dedicated employee of the Texas Department of Highways and Transportation for 40 years. When the family would ride around the area, he was proud to talk about the roads he had worked on and assisted in building.
