Gliffard Merle Schroeder, 78, of Brenham, died May 2, 2003, in Bryan. Mr. Schroeder was born Nov. 17, 1924, in the William Penn community, to Willie and Millie Pohlmeyer Schroeder. He was baptized and confirmed in Bethlehem Lutheran Church in William Penn. Mr. Schroeder was educated at Blinn College, the University of Houston and Auburn University. From April 23, 1943 to March 17, 1946, during World War II, he served in the U.S. Army Engineers at Ft. Belvoir, VA, in the paratroopers at Ft. Benning, GA and overseas at Okinawa. On Oct. 15, 1987, he married Irene Bohne Frye in Faith Lutheran Church in Huntsville. Survivors include his wife, Irene Schroeder of Brenham; sons and daughters-in-law, David W. Schroeder of Lytle Creek, CA, Curtis E. and Lisa Schroeder of Redondo Beach, CA and Terry H. and Mary Schroeder of Downey, CA; grandchildren, Terri Kay Loehnert and husband John of Lakewood, CA, Sheri Rae Tagg and husband Brian of San Diego, CA, Jack Schroeder of Redondo Beach, CA and Olivia Schroeder of Redondo Beach, CA; great-grandchildren, Jason, Megan and Erin Loehnert and Nick, Chris, Josh and Hannah Tagg; brothers and sister-in-law, Dover Schroeder of Houston and Roger and Elvera Schroeder of Brenham; sisters and brother-in-law, Audrey Kennedy of Mexia and Bernell and Carl Dimoush of Houston; and brother-in-law, Wilburn Bill Bohne of Brenham. Pallbearers are Doug Schroeder, Dale Schroeder, Jerry Lee Kennedy, Kenneth Kennedy and Derrick Kenjura. The funeral service was held at 10:00 a.m. Monday, May 5, in Memorial Oaks Chapel. Burial was in St. Matthew Lutheran Church Cemetery in Sandy Hill. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Memorial Oaks Chapel, 1306 W. Main St. in Brenham.
