Gloria Janner

Gloria Gilmore Janner, of Brenham area, died on Monday August 16, 2021.

The visitation will be Thursday August 19, 2021 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Memorial Oaks Chapel.

A private family graveside service will be held in the Janner Family Cemetery.

Mrs. Janner was born January 25, 1924 in Gay Hill to Joe and Eula Wallace Gilmore. Her descendants moved to Washington County in the 1830’s. She was baptized in the Methodist Church in Somerville.

Gloria attended Gay Hill School, Brenham High and Houston Community College. On July 5, 1942, she married Herbert William Janner in the Methodist Church. They moved to Houston and raised three sons. She lived there 36 years and the family was active in The Shepherd Drive Methodist Church where she taught Sunday School. She was a secretary in the Houston School District for 16 years. She was a Cub Scout leader, secretary for the West End Little League, volunteered to sew for the hospitals, she belonged to the Eastern Star and life time member of the P.T.A. She also loved playing bridge, reading and dancing. In 1977 she and Herbert moved back to the Brenham area, and she worked for 10 years for the State. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church, had more than 50 years with the Eastern Star, and belonged to the Sons of Hermann Lodge #6.

As the last surviving Aunt in her family, she was known as Aunt Doby to many wonderful nieces and nephews and their children.

She is survived by her sons and daughter-in-law, Darrel and Kim Janner, Randy and Sandy Janner; and daughter-in-law Pat Janner; grandchildren: Billy and Shana Janner, Brent and Neisa Janner, Brian and Shae Janner, Jason and Stephanie Raborn, Ryan and Cheri Janner, and Matt and Sherry Janner; great-grandchildren: Hayden Janner, Sydney, Max and Jill Janner, Kylie and Evan Janner, Lane, Reid and Wyatt Janner, and Alexis and Jake Janner.

She was preceded in death by her husband Herbert; son, B.J. Janner; her parents; brother, Joe Gilmore; sisters, Eileen Boeker and Wayne Campbell.

Memorial contributions may be directed to Amedisys Hospice.

Funeral arrangements are entrusted to Memorial Oaks Chapel, 1306 W. Main Street in Brenham.
