Gordon Densmore

September 9, 1927 — September 26, 2014

Gordon Lester Densmore, 87, husband of Vernice Green Densmore, graduated to glory Sept. 26, 2014 at High Hope Care Center in Brenham. A Celebration of Life is scheduled for 11 a.m., Saturday, October 4, 2014 at Bethany Christian Church in Burton, with Pastor Bob Hofmann and Rev. Jon Stouffer officiating. Interment will be in Perry, Ohio. Gordon Densmore was born Sept. 9, 1927 in Painesville, Ohio to Kenneth Albert and Margaretta Katherine Woodworth Densmore. Gordon lived a full and active life, literally touching hundreds of lives and leaving many who will cherish his memory. He served in the military from October 1945 to October 1948, married his sweetheart Vernice Green during a two week leave in July of 1948, and then spent most of his career as a comptroller and in sales/recruiting. Following in the footsteps of his father, Gordon was a square dance caller for many years. He founded several square dance clubs, including a camping/dancing group he named "Rambling Squares" that covered a tri-state area: Ohio, New York, and Pennsylvania. When Gordon became a Christian in 1975, he had a burning desire to "recruit" people for Christ, a passion that continued for the remaining years of his life. Gordon felt the Lord calling him into ministry, and at age 49, he entered the United Methodist Clergy Course of study, becoming an ordained pastor a few years later. After retiring from the pastorate in 1999, Gordon and Vernice became the first traveling representatives of PastorCare, bringing hope and help to hurting Pastors around the country. Not one to remain idle, after retiring from PastorCare, Gordon, in his mid-80''s, turned his attention to writing and has published a prayer book, two humorous poetry books, and a 366-page devotional book "Time Alone". Gordon lived the majority of his life in Ohio until 2005 when he and Vernice bought property in Burton, Texas, enjoying the mild winters in Texas and cooler summers in Northeast Ohio. In 2011 they made Texas their permanent residence. Gordon asked us not to mourn at his passing, but to rejoice! Rejoice in the promise of eternal life through Jesus Christ and that we have opportunity to meet again on the other side. He leaves us his legacy through his writing and the many people he has touched. Survivors include his wife, Vernice of Brenham; son and daughter-in-law, David and Tamara Densmore of Wadsworth, Ohio; daughter and son-in-law, Robyn and Dean Wall of Burton; grandchildren: David Densmore II, Timothy Jenna Densmore, Damian Eleanore Wall, Gabriel Judy Wall, and Janelle Jason Wall Lee; brothers and sisters-in-law, Robert and Beryl Densmore of Madison, Ohio, and Donald and Karen Densmore of Perry, Ohio. Also surviving are thirteen great-grandchildren, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; a grandson, Daniel Densmore; granddaughter-in-law, Kathy Riffle Densmore; and sisters-in-law, Bonivere Stone and Marjorie Densmore.
