Gus Albert Rust, 89, of Brenham, husband of Teckla Ruby Rust, died on August 31, 2013 at Gazebo Terrace Convalescent Center. Funeral services are scheduled for Wednesday, September 4, 2013 at 2 p.m. at St. Paul''s Evangelical Lutheran Church, with Pastor Phillip Fenton officiating. Burial will follow at Prairie Lea Cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday September 3, 2013, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Memorial Oaks Chapel. Gus was born on April 22, 1924 in the Brenham area, to Charles and Bertha Norenberg Rust. He was baptized and confirmed in Friedens Evangelical Lutheran Church in Gay Hill. Gus was in the National Guard of the 49 Division for 4 years. On August 6, 1950 he married Teckla Stroech at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Greenvine. There after they moved to Alvin and lived there appox. 20 years. Later years they moved to Austin, where he worked for the Texas Highway Dept of Transportation until his retirement; they were members of Gethsemane Lutheran Church of Austin. In 1988 they moved back to Brenham and became active members of St. Paul''s Evangelical Lutheran Church. Gus loved to listen to German music and watch the Astros play baseball, play cards and dominos with friends: and truly loved to fishing for many years. He dearly loved his wife Teckla and his dog Bailey, family and friends. Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Teckla Rust; daughter, Arlene Rust; sister-in-law, Anita Stroech; and his beloved dog Bailey and also survived by numerous nieces and nephews and other relatives. He was preceded in death by his parents, daughter Glenda Rust, 3 brothers; Herbert, Dan, and Louis Rust, 2 sisters; Alma Wegner and Lydia Wegner. Serving as pallbearers will be his nephews and close friend. Memorials may be given to St. Paul''s Lutheran Church or Brazos Valley Hospice.
