Gustav Foerster, Jr.

Gustav Foerster, Jr. 83, husband of Georgie Tschiedel Foerster, of Burton, died April 26, 2009 in Trinity Medical Center. Born October 3, 1925 to Gus F. L. and Bessie Melcher Foerster, he was baptized in the Swiss Alp Lutheran Church on December 26, 1925, and confirmed there on April 2, 1939. In the same church, he married Georgie Tschiedel on April 6, 1947. Mr. Foerster was the owner and operator retired of Gus Long Point Store in Long Point. Mr. Foerster graduated from La Grange High School and attended Blinn College. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II, and was active in the VFW during his lifetime. He was also a member of the Masonic Lodge No. 189 in Corpus Christi, as well as St. Paul s Lutheran Church of Rehburg. He loved people, operating Gus Long Point Store for many years, as well as sponsoring the Long Point Yellow Cat slowpitch baseball team. A favorite pastime was hunting and fishing, and for a number of years, he gave the fishing report on KWHI. He also served as an inspector for Washington Co. & Brazos River Authority Conservation Service. Surviving is his wife, Georgie Gene Foerster; his sons and daughters-in-law Rodney and Cindy Foerster of Brenham and Gary and Eileen Foerster of Houston. a daughter and son-in-law Terri and Jim Rodgers of Tomball; grandchildren: Meredith Foerster, Alec Foerster, and Cullen Rodgers, and a sister-in-law Annie Mae Janish of Fayetteville. He was preceded in death by a son, Gus Foerster III, by his parents, Gus and Bessie Foerster, and a sister and brother-in-law Virginia and Robert Kallus. Funeral services for Gustav Foerster, Jr. will be held at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, April 29, 2009 at St. Paul s Lutheran Church of Rehburg, with Pastor Stephen Cox officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation with family and friends will take place Tuesday, April 28, 2009 from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. at Memorial Oaks Chapel. Serving as pallbearers are Leslie Kelm, Pete Demuth, Herbert Rust, Travis Rosenbaum, Ronnie Hohlt and Wayne Seilheimer. Garland Sehlke and Milton Drews have been named as honorary pallbearers. Memorial contributions may be directed to the American Cancer Society, or to St. Paul s Lutheran Church of Rehburg.
