The Honorable H.L. (Bill) Young, 78, of (Burton, TX), passed away, November 1, 2016 in Brenham, TX.

Visitation in Brenham will be 6-8PM, Thursday, November 3, at Memorial Oaks Chapel, a second visitation will be on Saturday, November 5, at Zapata Funeral Home, 6-8pm Spur, TX

Funeral services will be held 2:00PM, Friday, November 4 at Memorial Oaks Chapel with Rev Jack Faulkner of Greenvine Baptist Church, officiating. Burial will be on Sunday, November 6, at Afton Cemetery, 2Pm in Afton, TX.

Bill was born in Afton, TX to Newman and Shirley Young on April 28, 1938. He went to school at Patton Springs. He married Mary Woolley on June 21, 1957 in McAdoo. Together they had two sons.
He served 14 years as county judge of Dickens County. After retiring as County Judge, Bill was employed by the General Land Office and Veterans Land Board. He serviced as Special Assistant to the Commissioner, Gary Mauro, Director of Special Projects, Director Field Operations and Special Assistant to the Executive Secretary of the Veterans Land Board during his 10 year tenure. In 1992 he was nominated by then Senator Bob Krueger and appointed by President Bill Clinton to be the United States Marshal for the Northern District of TX.

Young Institute of County Government TX A&M University (Founding member), County Official's Political Action Committee (President 86-87), County Judges Judicial Education Committee (Vice Chairman 80-88, County School Superintendent 75-88.

Special Honors: Official of the year - West TX County Judges & Commissioners Assoc. 81, Outstanding County Court Member of TX County Judges & Commissioners Assoc. of TX 88, Hidalgo de Bexar of Bexar County, Bexar Co. Commissioners Court San Antonio, TX 85, Honorary Cajun Bay City Chamber of Commerce Beaumont, TX 86, Hero of Lubbock, City of Lubbock, TX 87, Honorary Green Thumb of TX, TX Farmers Union 77, Awarded Life Member of the Texas Association of Counties, 88.

He was involved in Masons, Lions Club, Boll Weevils, & Greenvine Baptist Church.

Bill is preceded in death by his mother Shirley & father Newman Young of Dickens Co., brother Manuel of Lubbock, sisters Barbra Winkler of Brenham & Linda Walton of Snyder.

Bill is survived by his wife Mary, son Jeff of Midland, son Jamey and wife Connie of Austin, sister Chloe and husband Earl of Lubbock; adopted daughter Jill Bond of Berkeley, CA; Grandchildren, Shelbi, Jeffrey, Dustun, Dallas, Ava, and Zara.
