Helen Amanda Thiel Eckermann, 83, of Brenham, wife of Milton Eckermann, Sr., died March 29, 2009 in St. Joseph Regional Hospital in Bryan. Mrs. Eckermann was born July 21, 1925 in the Phillipsburg community to Erich and Erna Schwettmann Thiel. She was baptized August 23, 1925 in Salem Lutheran Church of Brenham, and confirmed April 2, 1939 in Phillipsburg. On October 19, 1947, she married Milton Eckermann, Sr., in Salem Lutheran Church. Mrs. Eckermann was retired from Debbie''s Daycare, where she was affectionately known as "Henny". She was a member of Salem Lutheran Church. Mrs. Eckermann enjoyed gardening, flowers and cooking and baking. Survivors include her husband, Milton Eckermann, Sr.; daughter Carol Roehling and husband Tommy; daughter-in-law Doris Eckermann; grandchildren: Dana Hughes and husband Kelley; Amanda Roehling and special friend Wesley Stolz, and Joshua Roehling; great-grandchildren: Grant Christopher Hughes, Lillian Bess Hughes, and a great-grandson expected in May; sister, Jannet Rosenbaum and husband Earl; brothers and sisters-in-law Erwin and Dorothy Thiel, Lorine Eckermann, and Wilma Eckermann. Also surviving are special friends and caregivers Wendy Hupe, Kim Krause, and Janice Croft. Preceding her in death was her son, Milton Butch Eckermann, Jr. on Dec. 2, 2008; grandson Kenneth Wayne Eckermann; her parents, Erich and Erna Thiel, and mother-in-law and father-in-law Edmund and Mary Eckermann. Funeral services for Helen Amanda Eckermann will be held Wednesday, April 1, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. at Salem Lutheran Church of Salem, with Pastor Charles Parnell and Pastor Lydia Paterson officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation with family and friends will take place Tuesday evening from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. at Memorial Oaks Chapel. Serving as pallbearers are Joshua Roehling, Kelley Hughes, Wesley Stolz, Glenn Rosenbaum, Scott Eckermann, Buck Eckermann, Larry Eckermann, and Curtis Gurka. Honorary pallbearers are David Folschinsky, Ben and Alice Dannhaus, and Ernest and Gloria Witte. Memorials may be directed Salem Lutheran Church of Brenham, or to a favorite charity.
