Helen Nordt passed away on Sunday, October 18, 2009 at Wesley Woods Alzheimer s Care Center in Waco, Texas. Helen was born January 7, 1924, in Washington County to Henry Bockhorn, Jr. and Alma Hohlt Bockhorn. She was baptized at St. Paul s Evangelical Lutheran Church of Brenham on April 20, 1924, and confirmed on April 10, 1938. Helen was a graduate of Brenham High School. After working as a receptionist for Dr. Herman Hodde she became a long-time homemaker. On January 4, 1948 she married Leroy Nordt in St. Paul s Evangelical Lutheran Church of Brenham. She and Leroy served their church faithfully in many capacities over the years. Helen enjoyed quilting, fishing, camping, playing cards and dominoes, bowling, and visiting with her grandchildren. She was a dedicated member of the women s church circle. She lived all of her life in Brenham until recently when she moved to Waco to be closer to her son and his family. Survivors include her son, Lee Nordt and wife Kathy of Waco; grandchildren, Garrison and Kaylee Nordt of Waco; sisters Alice Grawunder and husband Ewald, Jr. and Marjorie Stark and husband Larry all of Brenham; sister-in-law Helen Bockhorn of Brenham; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was preceded in death by her husband Leroy of 59 years, her parents Henry and Alma Bockhorn, and one brother, Alfred Bockhorn. The family expresses their gratitude to Dr. Bobby Marek, LaRoche Manor Assisted Living facility, and the Wesley Woods Oak unit for their care and support of Helen during the past several years. If you wish to give a memorial in Helen s name, the family suggests St. Paul s Lutheran Radio/TV Ministry, Hospice of Brenham/Brazos Valley, or a charity of your choice. Pallbearers are nephews, Larry Bockhorn, Lonnie Grawunder, Jeff Stark, Jon Stark, and grand nephews Michael Bockhorn, Thomas Grawunder, and Brandon Stark. Her brothers-in-law, Ewald Gruwunder, Jr. and Larry Stark and nephew, Marvin Bockhorn will serve as honorary pallbearers. Funeral services for Helen Nordt will be held Thursday, October 22, 2009 at St. Paul s Lutheran Church at 11:00 a.m., with Pastor Lawrence Bade and Pastor Phil Fenton officiating. Burial will follow in Prairie Lea Cemetery. The family will be receiving friends and relatives at Memorial Oaks Chapel Wednesday evening from 6:00 until 7:30 p.m. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Memorial Oaks Chapel.
