Hendrik Jillis de Wyzer, 82, of Brenham, died Jan. 9, 2005, at the Carlinda Ranch in Austin County. Henry was born April 24, 1922, in Rotterdam, Holland, to Anthonie and Johanna van der Ploeg de Wyzer. On Dec. 1, 1948, he married Adriana Jenny Wetsteyn of Schiebroek, Holland. After Rotterdam was bombed and Holland invaded by the Nazis, Henry was conscripted to work in Nazi work camps. His Jewish identity was obscured, otherwise he would have been sent to a concentration camp. At war s end, he returned to Holland and a few years later moved to New York City, where he worked as a head waiter and maitre d in a number of French restaurants. He finished his working life as the dining room manager at the Holiday Inn of Brenham. Henry and wife Jenny became naturalized U.S. citizens on Nov. 19, 1963. He attended Brenham Bible Church. Survivors include his wife, Jenny; a brother, Toon of Holland; two nieces; and a nephew. The funeral service for Hendrik de Wyzer will be at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 12 in Brenham Bible Church, 504 E. Sixth St., with Pastor Woody Woodward officiating. Burial will be in the Oak Hill Cemetery in Burton. His widow will receive visitors from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 11 at Memorial Oaks Chapel. Pallbearers will be Paul Martin, Ralph Martin, Carl Oelze, Paul Johnson, Jack Turner and John Manning. Memorials may be given to Brenham Bible Church.
