Henry Guelker

Henry L. Guelker, 63, of Burton, died Feb. 22, 2006, at his residence. Mr. Guelker was born Dec. 25, 1942, in Burton, to Henry Louis Sr. and Myrtle Ponfick Guelker. He was a graduate of Burton High School and attended Pan American College in Edinburg. On Aug. 29, 1987, he was married to Jerry Pendergrass in Victoria. Mr. Guelker was a site inspector for Shell Oil Co. He was a member of St. John s United Church of Christ in Burton, where he formerly served on the council. Mr. Guelker was also a member of Burton Fire Department, Washington County Wildlife Association, the Experimental Aircraft Association and was a past president of Burton Lions Club. He was also an active volunteer for the Burton Cotton Gin Museum. He was an avid hunter and fisherman and loved to build and fix things. He also enjoyed building airplanes and flying them. Survivors include his wife, Jerry Guelker of Burton; son, Todd Louis Guelker of Potts Camp, Mississippi; stepson, Jeffrey Dean Rengert of Ruidoso, New Mexico; daughter, Tonya Guelker Jones and husband J. Kevin of Houston; 3 grandchildren, Megan Jones, Madison Jones and Zachary Guelker; a sister, Mary Ann Rogas and husband Wilbert of Brenham; brother-in-law, Harold Merten Kelm of Burton; father-in-law, Dean Pendergrass of Carlsbad, New Mexico; stepfather-in-law and mother-in-law, Wayne and Shirley Donnell of Lindale; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Richard and Karen Pendergrass of Santa Fe, New Mexico; stepbrother-in-law and sister-in-law, Randy and Cindy Donnell of Sugar Land; a special aunt , Bertha Fischer of Burton; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Milroy Fizzy Guelker; sister, Janet Kelm; and stepson, Todd Martin Rengert. The family will receive visitors from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Friday, Feb. 24 in Foehner Funeral Home in Burton. The funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 25, in St. John s United Church of Christ in Burton with Pastors Glen Schoeneberg and Greg Felder officiating. Pallbearers will be the Cotton Gin Boll Weavils as follows: Bill Young, Ed Hopmann, Glenn Linke, Dean Edmundson, Ray Wayne Felder and Carol Montgomery. Those considered as honorary pallbearers will be members of the Burton Fire Department, the Burton Lions Club and the Brenham Elks Lodge. Memorials may be given to St. John s United Church of Christ Building Fund or Hospice Brazos Valley. Funeral arrangements are entrusted to Foehner Funeral Home in Burton.
