Henry Kuecker, Jr.

Henry W. Kuecker, Jr., 85, passed away Monday, November 14, 2016 at Brenham Nursing and Rehab Center.

Henry was born March 19, 1931 to Henry and Elsie Janner Kuecker. He was baptized March 31, 1931 at St. John's Lutheran Church of Prairie Hill, and was confirmed there March 25, 1945 by Pastor Gogolin. He graduated from Brenham High School in 1948.
Henry served in the Korean War and was honorably discharged in November of 1953. He returned home to help on the farm after his father passed away.

On February 25, 1956, he and Blondean Quinn were united in marriage at the First United Methodist Church in Brenham. To this union were born two daughters, Jo Lynn and Tracy.

Henry joined the First United Methodist Church in April of 1956. He served as head usher at the first service for 40 years. He was truly a man of integrity and honor, whose actions were a testimony to his Christian faith.

Henry was a member of the VFW, Mound Hill Shooting Club, and the Cemetery Association. He played baseball for the Mound Hillers and was inducted into the South Central Texas Semi-Pro Baseball Hall of Fame on April 14, 1985. He loved playing cards with his friends at Weiss Store.

Henry worked for Brenham Wholesale for 25 years, retiring in 1994. After retirement, he loved to go to the family farm and spend the day. He also enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, Heather, Daniel and Jacob.

After his health declined with Alzheimer's, he was confined to his home and could no longer do the things he enjoyed with his family.
Henry is survived by his wife, Blondean Kuecker; daughters Jo Lynn Kuecker Briggs of Brenham; Tracy McNicoll and husband Tony of Caldwell; grandchildren: Heather and Ricky Brewer of Caldwell, Daniel and Candice McNicoll of Caldwell, Jacob McNicoll and fiancé Shelby Savant of College Station; great-grandchildren: Elijah, McKenzie, Matthew, Aubree Grace, and baby boy Brewer, due in March; brothers and sisters-in-law Wilfred and Barbara Kuecker, Howard and Mildred Kuecker, Gerald and Teresa Kuecker, Charles Kuecker; sister, Doris Sebesta; sister-in-law and brother-in-law Vivian and Buddy Janes. Also surviving are numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Henry was preceded in death by his parents; son-in-law Kenneth Briggs; brothers and sister-in-law, Ervin and Laverna Kuecker, Clarence and Dorothy Kuecker, Elroy and Betty Kuecker; sister and brother-in-law Evelyn and Erwin Schulze; brother-in-law Herbert Sebesta; in-laws August and Lillie Quinn, Joyce and Steve Mantey, Lillian and Monroe Gaskamp, and nephews Michael Kuecker, Craig Kuecker, and Gregory Sebesta.

Henry was always one to express appreciation for any act of kindness. We , the family, wish to thank Dr. Nathan Simons, AMA and his loving caregivers for their care and compassion during his illness.

The funeral service will be at at 11 a.m., Thursday, November 17, 2016 at First United Methodist Church, with Pastors John Stouffer and Kay Reed officiating. Burial will follow in Prairie Lea Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5:30 until 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at Memorial Oaks Chapel.

Serving as pallbearers are Kenneth Pieper, Bobby Kolkhorst, Daniel McNicoll, Jacob McNicoll, Ron Kuecker, Lance Kuecker, Gary Schulze and Jason Janes.

Memorials may be directed to First United Methodist Church of Brenham, or to Hospice Brazos Valley.
