Herbert H. Blum, 89, of Brenham, died July 4, 2006, in St. Joseph Regional Health Center in Bryan. Mr. Blum was born May 28, 1917, in Zionsville, Texas, to William and Caroline Hegemeyer Blum. He was baptized and confirmed in Zion Lutheran Church of Zionsville. Mr. Blum attended Hoddeville School. On Oct. 14, 1937, he was married to Marie Schuermann in St. John s United Church of Christ in Burton. He was a carpenter for Lueckemeyer Construction and was also a bulldozer operator for Robert Lange Construction Co. for a number of years. Mr. Blum was a member of Zion Lutheran Church of Zionsville. He was an avid Astros fan, loved to hunt, and thought the world of his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Survivors include his wife, Marie Blum of Brenham; daughter and son-in-law, Dorine and Elmer Marburger of Brenham; five grandchildren, Lisa Conner and husband Craig of Brenham, Lori Wittner and husband Rodney of Brenham, Michael Marburger and wife JoAnn of Brenham, Alan Schwettmann and wife Brandi of Bastrop and Vicki McGuire and husband Gary of Round Rock; nine great-grandchildren, Emily and Matthew Conner, Katelyn and Kathryn Wittner, Allison Marburger, Danielle and Whitney Andress and Megan and Cole McGuire; sons-in-law, Bill Schwettmann and wife Vicky of Georgetown and Dave Raffo of Vineland, New Jersey; sister-in-law, Emma Schuermann of Magnolia; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; two daughters, Mary Lee Schwettmann and Kathy Raffo; four brothers; and one sister. The family will receive visitors from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Thursday, July 6 in Memorial Oaks Chapel. The funeral service will be at 11:00 a.m. Friday, July 7 in Zion Lutheran Church in Zionsville with Pastor David Hall officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Pallbearers will be Raymond Blum, Fred Blum, Fred Pelkemeyer, Norwood Lange, Earl Blum, Marvin Blum, Barry Blum and Nathan Kelm. Honorary pallbearers will be Vernon Blum and Jerry Blum. Memorials may be given to Zion Lutheran Church of Zionsville. Funeral arrangements are entrusted to Memorial Oaks Chapel, 1306 W. Main St., in Brenham.
