Herbert Kettler, 90, died June 23, 2012 in Gazebo Terrace Convalescent Center in Brenham. Funeral services are scheduled for 10 a.m., Wednesday, June 27, 2012 in Bethlehem Lutheran Church of William Penn, with Pastor Jeffrey King officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends and relatives Tuesday evening from 5 until 7:30 p.m. at Memorial Oaks Chapel. Herbert was born January 31, 1922 in the William Penn Community to Henry and Erna Thane Kettler. Baptized March 5, 1922 by Pastor Hellmann, he was confirmed May 23, 1937 by Pastor Appel. On January 1, 1944, he was married to Alvina Ashorn by Pastor Karcher in Zion Lutheran Church of Anderson, Texas. He was well known in the area as a farmer, rancher, and dairyman, operating the family dairy for 27 years. Survivors include daughters and sons-in-law, Diane and Fritz Jaehne, and Doris and Delwin Gaskamp, all of Brenham; grandchildren: Don and Allison Jaehne, Gail and Mark Andrejczak, Diedra Wallace, Cindy and Bradley Schomburg, and Lori and Chad Schramme; great-grandchildren: "D.J." and Allan Jaehne, Haley, Joshua, William and Aiden Andrejczak, Kayla and Kayce Wallace, Braylee and Colin Schomburg, and Addison Schramme; brother, Edwin Kettler of Navasota; sister, Lorine Schroeder of William Penn; brother and sister-in-law, Raymond and Pauline Kettler of William Penn; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Lillian and Elmo Walther of Giddings; and a brother-in-law, Harold Guetzlaff. Preceding him in death was his wife, Alvina Ashorn Kettler; his parents; daughter, Barbara Ann Kettler; sister, Erna Lueckemeyer Guetzlaff; brother-in-law, Lawrence Lueckemeyer; brother and sister-in-law, Wilbert and Odell Kettler; sister and brother-in-law, Laura and Irvin Ashorn; sisters-in-law, Leona Kettler, Clara Ashorn, and Ester Ashorn; as well as a brother-in-law, Nolan Schroeder. Serving as pallbearers are Don Jaehne, Mark Andrejczak, Bradley Schomburg, Chad Schramme, D.J. Jaehne, and Kayla Wallace. All grandchildren and great-grandchildren will be considered honorary pallbearers. Memorials may be directed to Bethlehem Lutheran Church of William Penn or to Hospice Brazos Valley.
