Herbert Mutscher

During the early morning hours of July 23, 2011, God in his infinite wisdom and mercy called Herbert Mutscher to his eternal home. Born September 27, 1909, to Reinhold and Emma Boenker Mutscher, Herbert grew up in the Wm Penn Community of Washington County. He was baptized October 31, 1909, at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Wm Penn, and was confirmed there on April 13, 1924. He attended school in Wm Penn. On November 18, 1937, he married Meta Gaskamp, and they were blessed with 73 years of marriage and 3 children. He retired from Schleider Furniture Company after more than 50 years of service. He was a member of Grace Lutheran Church, served as Elder, Board of Education, Choir and Men''s Club, and a member of South Central Texas Semi-Pro Baseball Hall of Fame. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother and sister-in-law Gus and Gertie Mutscher, sister and brother-in-law Gertrude and Willie Klussmann, brother Henry Klussmann, sisters and their spouses, Rosie and Robert Lenz, Lydia and Herman Mertins, and Louise Klussmann. Brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Henry and Alma Gaskamp, Louise Gaskamp, Jim and Thelka Lueckemeyer, Herbert and Hattie Gaskamp, Walter Gaskamp, Alfred Gaskamp, Otto Gaskamp Jr, and Lillian Gaskamp and son-in-law Norman Prenzler. He is survived by his wife Meta, daughter Rose Marie Prenzler, son and daughter-in-law, Kenneth and Sarita Mutscher, daughter and son-in-law, Carolyn and Wayne Kuenstler, and three grandsons; Don Prenzler and wife Marie, Kevin Mutscher and wife Renee, and Brian Kuenstler and 2 great-grandsons; Matthew and Nicholas Prenzler. He is also survived by brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law Annie Gaskamp, Melvin and Pearl Gaskamp, Raymond and Ann Gaskamp, Nelda Gaskamp, Clarence and Bernice Gaskamp, Monroe Gaskamp, Florence Gaskamp and many nieces, nephews, and friends. Visitation with the family will be from 6-8:00 p.m. on Monday, July 25, at Memorial Oaks Chapel. Funeral service will be Tuesday, July 26, at 10 a.m. at Grace Lutheran Church with Rev. Matthew Jacobs and Rev. William Holzer officiating. Burial will follow at Prairie Lea Cemetery. Memorials may be given to Grace Lutheran Church, 1212 W. Honorary pallbearers are Goeke Mutscher, Gus F. Mutscher, Fred Boecker, Dr. Herb Foelber, Willie Kankel, Robert Lenz, Victor Arlitt and all former and current employees at Schleider Furniture Co.
