Herbert William Weiss, 80, husband of Edna Weiss, died March 27, 2005. He was born May 25, 1924 in Washington County in the Mound Hill community. Herbert was the son of Ed and Emma Klatt Weiss. He was baptized August 17, 1924, at St. Peter s Lutheran Church of Gay Hill, and confirmed there on August 28, 1938, by Pastor A. W. Weber. Herbert attended Mound Hill School and served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. On January 1, 1948, he was married by Pastor Paul Gogolin at St. John s Lutheran Church of Prairie Hill. To this union, three children were born: Carolyn, Kenneth, and Betty. He was employed by Central Freight Lines for 37 years as a line driver, and was named Texas driver of the year in 1983 by the Texas Motor Transportation Association and Texas Safety Association. He was a long-time member of St. John s Lutheran Church of Prairie Hill, where he served on the church council, two intern committees, and also ushered; in recent years, he was a member of Christ Lutheran Church, Brenham, Texas. He was also a member of the VFW and American Legion. Herbert was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Norma Borchgardt; and one brother, Melvin Butch Weiss. Survivors include his wife Edna, and three children: daughter Carolyn Hutson and husband Joel of Tyler, son Kenneth Weiss and wife Kathy, and daughter Betty Bugaj and husband Charles Butch, all of Brenham, six grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, one brother, Alfred Weiss and wife Eleanor of Brenham, one sister, Clara Strangmeyer of Texas City, one sister-in-law, Gladys Weiss of Brenham, one aunt, and numerous other relatives. Pallbearers will be grandsons Michael Weiss, Thomas Weiss, Craig Stickley, Ryan Eastlick, David Hutson, and Drew Hutson, nephew Ralph Bowler, and great nephews Tim Seale and Jon Seale. The funeral service will be held at 2;00 P.M. Tuesday, March 29, 2005 in Christ Lutheran Church with Pastor Blair Lundborg officiating. The family will receive visitors from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Monday, at Memorial Oaks Chapel. Memorials may be given to Christ Lutheran Church Renovation Fund.
