Herman M. Schoenemann, Jr. passed away on Thursday, September 20, 2018, at his home in the Sandtown community near Burton and Carmine Texas. He was born the first son of Herman M. Schoenemann, Sr. and Olivia (FeFe) Loewe Schoenemann in their Sandtown home on August 12, 1930. Herman attended the Sandtown community school and graduated from Burton High School (1948) while working on the family farm. He was called into military service by the US Marine Corps in 1952. After completing his service, he continued his education by completing his bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Sam Houston State University.
Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m., Sunday, September 23, 2018 at Martin Luther Lutheran Church, with Pastor David Tinker officiating. Burial will follow in the Loewe Family Cemetery in Sandtown.
Visitation will be from 5 until 7 p.m. Saturday at Memorial Oaks Chapel.
Herman is remembered as an educator who shared his love of mathematics with many students over his career that began at East Bernard High School, East Bernard, Texas. In 1966, he took an opportunity to return home and accepted a position at Blinn College in Brenham. He retired from Blinn in 1992 as the Mathematics Division Chairman.
His avocations included dancing many a night away, having an occasional beer with family and friends, and making hay and tending to the cattle on his farm.
He married Beatrice Mayer (Krimm) in 1955 and together they had four children.
In 1986, he married Ruth Kennedy, who remained his loving wife and faithful dance partner until his death.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his only sibling O B Schoenemann and sister-in-law Ruth Leonhardt Schoenemann, and his stepson Bryant Spence.
Herman is survived by his wife Ruth, children Herman M (Marty) Schoenemann III (spouse Janine L Brown), Clifford W Schoenemann (Julie), Pamela K Rosas, and Trent J Schoenemann; step-daughter Beverly Mathis (Mike); 13 grandchildren and step-grandchildren; and 6 great-grandchildren and step-great grandchildren.
Mr. Schoenemann's grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
