Funeral services for Hilda Mae Schulz, widow of Wilfred Schulz, are scheduled for 2 p.m., Thursday, October 24, 2013 at St. John United Church of Christ, with Pastor Glen Schoeneberg officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday evening from 6 until 8 p.m. at Memorial Oaks Chapel. Mrs. Schulz, 91, the widow of Wilfred Schulz, died October 19, 2013 at Scott and White Hospital in Brenham. She was born Nov. 5, 1921 in Wesley to Wilhelm and Florence Williams Mertz. Baptized Nov. 30, 1922 at Welcome Lutheran Church in Welcome, she was confirmed April 5, 1936 at Emmanuel Lutheran Church of Greenvine. On June 22, 1941, she was married to Wilfred Schulz at St. John''s United Church of Christ in Burton, where they continued membership over the years. The family made their home in Washington County, and Mrs. Schulz was devoted to caring for her family. Gardening and sewing were favorite pastimes. While in the nursing home, she enjoyed crafting and playing bingo. Survivors include her daughter, Dorothy Welch of Houston; daughter-in-law, Anne Schulz of Brenham; grandchildren: John Alan and Crista Welch, Christopher and Kerri Alley, and Glenda and Gary Weyand; great-grandchildren: Justin Weyand, Nicole Weyand, and Chryston Alley; sister-in-law, Vernell Mertz of Burton; brother-in-law and sister-in-law Ervin and Mary Jo Schulz of Brenham, and a great-granddaughter, Alexis Welch. Preceding her in death was her husband, Wilfred Schulz, a son, Alex Fred Schulz, son-in-law, Donald Welch, as well as three sisters, Emma Naegeli, Evelyn Ullrich, Lenora Worthy, and a brother, Willie Mertz. Serving as pallbearers are John Alan Welch, Christopher Alley, Gary Weyand, Terry Dean Schulz, Claude Naegeli, and Justin Weyand.
