Hollis Harris

Hollis Eugene Harris, 86, of Brenham, died May 12, 2006, in Trinity Medical Center in Brenham. Mr. Harris was born April 16, 1920, in Union Point, Georgia, to James A. and Eva Dill Harris. He served in the Army during World War II in the European Theater and was awarded the Purple Heart and Bronze Star. On March 9, 1946, he was married to Sue Howard in Savannah, Georgia. Mr. Harris was a charter member of Fellowship Baptist Church in Brenham, Graham Lodge # 20 AF & AM, Scottish Rite, Arabia Temple, Brenham Shrine Club, VFW and DAV life member. Mr. Harris was employed by Humble Oil & Refining Company and Exxon Oil Company for 38 years. Survivors include his wife, Sue Harris of Brenham; son, Robert Cliffton Harris and wife Donna of Spring Branch; grandson, Robert Cliffton Harris, II; granddaughter, Holly Ilene Hurst and husband Steve C. Hurst; great-granddaughter, Victoria Weaver; daughter, Mary Elizabeth Harris Fletcher and husband Kenneth Ray Fletcher of Pasadena; grandson, Joshua E. Fletcher and wife Tabitha; great-granddaughter, Abigail Fletcher; great-grandson, Abram Fletcher; granddaughter, Faith Christine Brown and husband, Dr. Chad T. Brown; granddaughter, Sarah Elizabeth Purvis and husband Jeremy G. Purvis; granddaughter, Rebekah Ann Scherm and husband Kevin R. Scherm; grandson, Micah E. Fletcher; granddaughter, Hannah Ruth Fletcher; grandson, Seth D. Fletcher; granddaughter, Leah Grace Fletcher; sister, Bessie Newell; former daughter-in-law, Jerrie S. Harris; special caregiver, Janice Martinez and husband Freddy; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers. The family will receive visitors from 5:30-7:30 p.m. today, May 15 at Memorial Oaks Chapel. The funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, May 16 at Memorial Oaks Chapel with Darren Donaldson officiating. A Masonic graveside service will follow at Masonic Cemetery in Chappell Hill, under the auspices of Graham Lodge # 20 AF & AM. Pallbearers will be grandsons and grandsons-in-law. Memorials may be given to the Fellowship Baptist Church Maintenance Fund or the Shrine Burn Center in Galveston, TX.
