Howard William Bennett, 91, the widower of Stella Lucille Coad Bennett, died Friday January 9, 2009 at his residence. Howard was born April 9, 1918 in Hartford, Connecticut, the son of George William Bennett and Ruby Taylor Bennett. He received his master''s degree from the University of Houston. He was superintendent of production at Armco Steel. He was a generous supporter of The Bread Partners and was honored by the Brazos Valley Food Bank as president of Bread Partners. He was also a member of Independence Historical Society, Heritage Society of Washington County, Unity Theater, Dr. W. W. O''Donnell Performing Arts Center THEA, Brenham Heritage Museum, The Star Museum of Texas at Washington on the Brazos and Brenham Presbyterian Church. Survivors include sons and daughters-in-law, Dave and Carolyn Bennett of Kingwood and Bill and Karen Bennett of El Paso. Grandchildren are Cinda and Todd Flynn, David II and Tara Bennett, Taylor Bennett, Kelly and Shannon Bennett, Sara and Jason Lowery, Anitra and Kevin Edney, Phillip Smock, Holly and Dawson Brumbelow, Justin and Sara Smock, Brandon and Emily Bennett. Great-grandchildren are Bryce Flynn, Kelson Flynn, Gannon Flynn, William Bennett, Molly Bennett, Jackson Bennett, Kieran Bennett, Euan Bennett, Grady Lowery, Sawyer Lowery, Code Edney, Noah Edney, Hutton Edney, Callaway Edney, Toben Edney, Luciana Brumbelow and Hannah Smock. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, a brother George Bennett and a sister Dorothy Finsilver. The graveside service will be held Wednesday, January 14 at 9:30 a.m. at Oak Rest Cemetery, with a memorial service to follow at 11:00 a.m. at the Brenham Presbyterian Church with Reverend Jim McCloud officiating. His grandsons will serve as pallbearers. Visitation with the family will be Tuesday, January 13 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Memorial Oaks Chapel. Memorials may be given to The Bread Partners or a charity of your choice.
