Funeral services for Howard Fred Fuchs, 85, husband of Joyce Ullrich Fuchs, will be held at 2 p.m., Sunday, November 18, 2012 in Martin Luther Lutheran Church of Carmine, with Pastor Karen Nelson officiating. Burial will follow in the Carmine Cemetery. The family will receive friends and relatives Saturday evening from 5 until 7 p.m. at Foehner Funeral Home in Burton. Mr. Fuchs passed away November 16, 2012 in Christus Dubuis Hospital in Bryan. He was born September 26, 1927 in Carmine to Otto L. Sr. and Elsie Hartstack Fuchs. He was baptized December 4, 1927 and confirmed April 6, 1941. Howard was a member of the first graduating class of Round Top Carmine High School, as well as a 1949 graduate of Texas A&M University. He served in the U. S. Army, stationed in Fairbanks, Alaska. On March 7, 1953, he was married to Joyce Ullrich in Carmine. Howard was a teacher, a substitute rural mail carrier, and a farmer and rancher. Howard was an avid Texas Aggie fan, closely following all A&M sports events, and he enjoyed watching his great-grandchildren in sporting events. Listening to polka music was a favorite pastime, as well as dancing with Joyce at local dances. He especially enjoyed the music of the Dujka Brothers. He prepared meals of barbecue, chili and stew for his family and friends. He enjoyed the smell of freshly plowed fields and newly cut hay. A lifetime member of Martin Luther Lutheran Church of Carmine, he was a member of the Cedar Creek Schuetzen Verein, and the Carmine Fire Department. Howard was also a member of the Quade-Werchant Post 338 of the American Legion, the Farm Bureau, and served on the Board of Directors of Carmine State Bank. Survivors include his wife, Joyce Fuchs of Carmine; daughters and sons-in-law Cynthia and Roy Wied of Carmine, and Jennifer and Larry Teinert of Giddings; grandchildren: Christie Goehring and husband Blake, Amy Weinert and husband Tanner, Trent Teinert and special friend Elizabeth Bates, and Travis Teinert; great-grandchildren: Ryker Goehring, Kannyn Goehring, and Teague Weinert; brother and sister-in-law Otto L. and Carolyn Fuchs of Carmine; sisters Deloras Manske of Oklahoma City, and Shirley Mueller of Brenham. Other surviving relatives are sister-in-law and brother-in-law Delton and Lois Wunderlich, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and their families. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers-in-law Ed Manske, J.D. Mueller and Lloyd Ullrich. Serving as pallbearers are Blake Goehring, Tanner Weinert, Trent Teinert, Travis Teinert, Peter Wunderlich, David Eilers, Calvin Coufal, and Gilbert Krause. Honorary pallbearers are Ryker Goehring, Kannyn Goehring, and Teague Weinert. Memorials may be directed to Martin Luther Lutheran Church.
