Ida Wright Cullen, age 88, went to be with her Lord and Savior Thursday, December 13, 2007. She was born in San Juan, Texas on Sept. 8, 1919. She graduated from Harlandale High School in San Antonio, Texas and from Baylor University in Waco, Texas. On August 28, 1943 she married Paul Shelby Cullen. They went to Eku, Nigeria, West Africa as homemaker and medical missionary under the Southern Baptist Mission Board, serving 1950-1958. The younger two children were born in Eku. Ida homeschooled and taught Sunday School in Nigeria. Ida was a member of First Baptist Church Brenham, Texas for nearly 20years and was a member for 30 years of Second Baptist Church, Houston TX. During WWII Ida worked for 6 months for the Army Air Corps at the San Antonio Aviation Cadet Center at the Kelly Air Force Base as a clerk typist. She faithfully supported her church and several mission and ministry organizations including Habitat for Humanity, Wycliff Translators, the Narramore Foundation, and KHCB Christian Radio. She gave financial support to several Republican organizations. She participated for a time in a program of sending Christian literature to individual Russians. She enjoyed the family camping trips to National Parks in the 1960s. She with her husband attended annual reunions of Harlandale High School and Baylor Alumni and of the Retired Nigerian Missionaries. She was preceded in death by parents Dr. James Asa and Susan RosserWright, five sisters and five brothers: Eleanor Mulcahy, Emily Crow, Joe Vitringer Wright, Margaret Elizabeth Frost, Clarence Rosser Wright, Cora Felton, Mary Alleen Major, Ewell E. Wright, Dwight Frederick Wright "Buddy", and Robert Wright, and by her youngest child, Jeanine Cullen Alexander. She is survived by her husband, two sons and daughters-in-law John Marshall and Sharon Loraine Elliot Cullen of Houston, TX, and Mark Paige and Marilyn Djenadi Mills Cullen of Pleasanton, TX, and one daughter and son-in-law Paulette and Leo D. Brown of Baton Rouge. She is survived by ten grandchildren: Caleb Shelby Cullen of Toronto and Matthew Eric Cullen of Houston TX; Kenneth Warner Brown of Waco; Richard Lawrence Brown and wife Gina Michelle vanZandt Brown of Baton Rouge, LA; and Lisa Victoria Brown currently in Houston at Rice University; Dr. Benjamin Curtis Cullen and wife Lorna Jean Fels Cullen; Luke Harrison Cullen; and Andrew Paul Cullen and wife Estrella Reyes Parker Cullen; and Ruth Ann Cullen Henager and husband Alan Whitfield Henager; and David Thomas Alexander Jr. Ida is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews, including Gloria Mulcahy Skelton of Montgomery, TX, Mary Alice Crow of Hondo, TX, John Franklin Wright, Charles Frederick Frost of Missouri City, TX, Rex Rosser Wright of Freer, TX, Billy Felton, Gary Michael Major of Baytown, TX, and Robert Wright of Waco, TX. The funeral service will be held on Tuesday, December 18, 2007 at 2:00 pm at First Baptist Church, Brenham, 304 N. Market with Rev. Steve Ponder. Burial will be at the Prairie Lea Cemetery in Brenham. Family will receive visitors at the church in Brenham one hour prior to the service.
