Ike Selvester Nowak, 80, of Cypress, died March 13, 2003, at his residence. Mr. Nowak was born July 30, 1922, in Chappell Hill, Texas, to Stanley and Mary Cegielski Nowak. He was baptized Jan. 31, 1922 in Chappell Hill and was confirmed in Richmond. Mr. Nowak was educated at Richmond High School. He served in the U.S. Air Force during World War II as a staff sergeant gunner in the 497th Bomber Squadron. On Oct. 3, 1953, he married Angeline Kaminski in Chappell Hill. For 40 years, Mr. Nowak was employed with Cameron Iron Works and was a member of VFW Post 9183 and International Association of Machinists. Survivors include his wife, Angeline Nowak of Cypress; sons and daughters-in-law, Daniel and Margaret Nowak of Houston, Harold and Diane Nowak of Austin and Mark and Jacque Nowak of Austin; daughter and son-in-law, Evelyn and Russell Stein of Brenham; 5 grandchildren, Sam Nowak, Max Nowak and Jake Nowak, all of Austin, and Bridget Stein and Dalton Stein, both of Brenham; brother and sister-in-law, Julius and Georgianna Nowak of Rosenberg and sister and brother-in-law, Esther and Alex Joswiak and sister-in-law, Gertrude Nowak of Richmond. He was preceded in death by his parents; and brother, Zygmund Nowak. The funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Monday, March 17 in St. Stanislaus Catholic Church in Chappell Hill with Father Gene Shepard, celebrant. Burial will be in the church cemetery. A rosary will be recited at 7:30 p.m. Sunday, March 16 in Memorial Oaks Chapel. Pallbearers will be Allen Kaminski, Stanton Nowak, Leroy Joswiak, Charles Joswiak, Brian Nowak, Ben Stastny, Jerry Dorcz and Elliott Nowak. Funeral arrangements are entrusted to Memorial Oaks Chapel, 1306 W. Main St., in Brenham.
