Irene Kankel Toler, beloved wife of Bob Toler, passed away September 7, 2008 in Nexxus Hospital in the Woodlands, Texas. Mrs. Toler was born January 5, 1927 to Rudolf and Mathila Gorges Kankel in Washington County. She was baptized and confirmed In St. Matthew Lutheran Church of Sandy Hill. Irene was a graduate of Brenham High School and later attended business school.. She married Bob Toler on July 4, 1946 in St. Matthew Lutheran Church of Sandy Hill. She was employed as a secretary in the insurance industry, but more importantly, was a loving wife and mother. Mr. and Mrs. Toler resided in Spring, Texas for the past 30 years. She and her husband were members of First Methodist Church in Houston. Irene is survived by her husband, Bob; daughter, Barbara Tiffin of Conroe; daughter, Debra Pierce of Spring; grandson, Jeff Tiffin and wife Shannon of Spring, Texas; granddaughter, Jennifer Tiffin of Spring; grandson, Blake Rasco and wife Brandi of Spring; grandson, Dustin Pierce of Spring; great-granddaughter, Sydnie Tiffin of Spring; sister, Florence Boehnemann of Brenham, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. Irene was a special lady with many talents. She devoted herself to her family, and loved taking family vacations with her children and grandchildren. Her favorite time of day was spent walking her dog, Champ. She also enjoyed listening to her grandson, Jeff, as he sang special songs for her. She was preceded in death by her parents; sisters-in-law Edna Jones and Edvis Powell; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Jim and Lilly Toler, brothers-in-law: Gorden Toler, John Toler, Cary Toler, and Delphine Boehnemann, and a nephew, Larry Boehnemann. A graveside service for Irene Toler will be held Wednesday, September 10, 2008 at 10:00 a.m. at Prairie Lea Cemetery, with Pastor Dale Chance officiating. The family will receive friends and relatives Tuesday evening from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. at Memorial Oaks Chapel. Serving as pallbearers are Kyle Foster, Michael Board, Steve Camp, Stephen Boehnemann, Willie Kankel, Jr., Clinton Smith, and Lester Lehmann. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Memorial Oaks Chapel, 1306 W. Main, Brenham.
