Jacob Yarter, 98, of Burton, passed away on January 6, 2021. Due to current public health concerns, no public services are being held at this time. Private interment will be held at Prairie Lea Cemetery in Brenham. A celebration of life is being planned at a later date.
Jacob Foster Yarter was born in Victoria, Texas on November 28, 1922. He was welcomed into the world by his parents, Jacob and Esther (Fischer), and his siblings. He attended school in the area and graduated from high school.
Jacob was very proud of his military service. He joined the US Army in 1940. He was deployed to Okinawa, Japan, during the brutal conflicts there in the second World War. After his service, Jacob was honorably discharged from the Army as a 1st Sgt. He later joined the National Guard Reserves and served for many years.
On December 18, 1944, Jacob was united in marriage to Evelyn Sanders, at Camp Lejune, North Carolina. They were married for 61 years prior to her passing in 2005. They were blessed with three children.
Jacob was employed for many years by Houston Light and Power Company, working as a transportation and distribution manager.
Jacob is preceded in death by his parents; his wife Evelyn; in 2005.
Surviving loving family includes: children and their spouses, Jacob Yarter, Jimmy Yarter (Mary Lou), Jennifer Dean (Jeff Dean); grandchildren, Dixie Mahaffey (Paul Mahaffey), Andy Yarter (Jordan), Lauren Yarter, Kate Yarter, Tim Farmer (Aimee), Tiffany Ayars (Justin Ayars); and he was blessed with 7 great-grandchildren; Evan, Susan and Natalie Mahaffey, Eliza Yarter, Cade, Skylar and Jaxton Ayars. He is also survived by brothers Clarence and Edgar Yarter.
