James Brewer

James William Brewer, 78, died August 15, 2019 in Houston.

Funeral services are scheduled for 2:00 p.m., Saturday, August 17, 2019 at Memorial Oaks Chapel, with Pastor Pat Dietrich officiating. Burial will follow in Prairie Lea Cemetery. Visitation will be at Memorial Oaks Chapel, beginning at 1 p.m. Saturday and continuing until service time.

James W. Brewer was born in Brenham on January 26, 1941, to Steve William and Erna Seidel Brewer. He was baptized in 1941 at St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church by Rev. Theo Streng, and confirmed at Zion Lutheran Church in Houston in 1965.

He served his country in the U. S. Army. He attended Lamar High School and Spring Branch High School in Houston, graduating in 1959 from Brenham High School. James graduated with a B.S. degree in Petroleum Engineering from Texas A&M in 1963, and obtained a M.B.A. from Texas A&M in 1970.

James was employed by Schlumberger Well Service for 6 months before entering the Army for 2 years. After his discharge, he again worked for Schlumberger Well Service for about two years. He was then employed by Texas Commerce Bank in Houston and after many mergers with other banks, retired after 35 years from J.P. Morgan Chase Bank in 2006.

On July 31, 1975, he was married to Mary Louise (Becky) Pilley at Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Houston by Rev. Harold Pierson.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Louise Brewer; brother and sister-in-law Travis and Claudene Brewer of Belton; sister and brother-in-law Carolyn and Algene Jaster of Longview, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.
