James Chism

James "Jim" Gregory Chism, 58, of Brenham, TX. passed into the loving arms of Jesus on Friday, August 5, 2011 in Houston, TX. Jim was a wonderful, kind soul and a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend. Jim was born on Oct. 14, 1952 in Brookfield, MO to Orpha Whisenand and Stoy Eugene Chism and grew up in Marceline, MO. Jim graduated in 1970 from Marceline MO. High School. Jim also served 8 years in the United States Armed Forces in the Army stationed in Korea and Hawaii. After his military service, Jim was an officer for the Houston Police Department for 28 years retiring in May, 2008. Jim enjoyed a very contented retirement on his "little patch of heaven" outside of Brenham working in his vegetable patch of watermelons, strawberries and peppers, peaches and plum trees, jamming on his guitar with his musician friends or enjoying a quiet evening at home with his wife. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, James and Lula Whisenand, his mother and father, and his brothers, Stoy Lynn Chism and Jeffery Clenny. Jim is survived by his wife Diana, daughters Katherine Vincent and husband, Chad of Somerville, TX., Lauren Garza and husband Damian of Clute, TX., grandchildren, Shalyn, Makayla, Christopher and Jeremy, aunt Blanche Whisenand of Marceline, MO and numerous cousins. Visitation will be held Tuesday, August 9, from 6:00-8:00 at Memorial Oaks Chapel in Brenham, TX. A service will be held Wednesday, August 10 at 10:00 a.m. at Memorial Oaks Chapel in Brenham, TX with Harry Briscoe of Morningstar Cowboy Church of Kenny conducting the service. Interment will be in Prairie Lea Cemetery. A special thanks to the excellent staff of doctors and nurses at Memorial Hermann Southwest Heart and Vascular Institute ICU for all of their care and valiant efforts. Arrangements are entrusted to Memorial Oaks Chapel, 130 W. Main, Brenham. 979836-4564.
