James Jim Leroy Dreyer Jr. died Feb. 17, 2006 at the home of his parents, Leroy and June Dreyer. He was born May 26, 1951 in Brenham, Texas. Jim was baptized at an early age at the First Baptist Church in Brenham. He left Brenham after graduating from Brenham High School when his dream of playing college football came true, when he signed with the University of Texas in 1969. Jim was on the 1969-70 National Championship University of Texas football team. He was selected all-conference on the UT freshman football team. His love of sports remained with him until he passed away. Jim was blessed with a career in professional baseball being named Scout of the Year for the Texas Rangers and the San Diego Baseball Clubs. He was a member of The University of Texas Ex-Student Association, Texas Baseball Scouts Association, Professional Baseball Association & Sons of Republic of Texas. On Oct. 2, 1993, he married Teresa Brown Laster in Chappell Hill, Texas. On April 12, 1994, Jim received a bone marrow transplant donated by his sister Joan. Jim was given a short time to live, however his fight for life and the many prayers received kept him with us for much longer. The great loves in his life were his family, friends and his three girls dogs, Scout, Rookie and Toi. He was loved by all and will be missed by many. His time has come to go now and be with God. He is survived by his parents, Leroy and June Dreyer; wife Teresa; his children, Amy Eads and husband Barry, Branden Emmons and his wife De''Aun, Tara Dreyer, Tracie Kennedy and husband Steve and Stephen Laster; grandchildren, Emma Eads, Tayler Kennedy, Austyn Kennedy and Robert Kennedy; his twin sisters, Janet Dreyer-Budde and Joan Dreyer Koonce and husband Phil; sister and brother-in-law Margaret and Kenneth Ricks; brother and sister-in-law Danny and Connie Brown; nieces Jana Dreyer, Spencer Budde, Brittany and Kellye Koonce; and great-niece Grace Elizabeth Dreyer; aunts and uncles, Ann and Gene Dreyer, and Ruth Mann; and numerous cousins. He was preceded in death by his infant son, Derek Charles Dreyer; grandparent, Charlie and Leona Dreyer, Tommy and Ruth Whiddon; and mother and father-in-law, Dorothy and Wilbur Brown. The family visitation will be Sunday, Feb. 19 from 6-8 p.m. at Memorial Oaks Funeral Chapel. Funeral services for Jim will be held at the First Baptist Church Monday, Feb. 20, 2006 at 2 p.m. Pallbearers are Jarrall Bolton, Greg Cole, Bob Haberman, Dale Knight, Bob Lenz and Bill Wyman. Honorary pallbearers will be Gene Dreyer, Mike Dreyer, Kevin Dreyer, Pat Dreyer, Phil Koonce, Todd Turbush, Greg Budde and members of the Professional Baseball Scouting Association. Special thanks to the bone marrow transplant team at Baylor Hospital in Dallas, especially Dr. Joseph Fay and his medical staff. Memorials may be given to the charity of your choice.
