James Ernest Evans, 91, of Burton, TX, died July 28, 2005, Trinity Medical Center in Brenham. Mr. Evans was born July 28, 1914, in Cuero, TX, to Walter and Zula Hale Evans. He was preceded in death by his precious wife, Cleo; brother, Walter; sisters, Lynn Kiser of Arkansas and Lois Ball of Marlin, TX. He is survived by his loving son and daughter-in-law, John and Marsha Evans of Houston; sister, Kay Collins of Cape Cod, MA; nephews, Ralph Ball of Katy, TX and Seth Ball of Marlin, TX; nieces, Kathryn Kiser and Elizabeth Timmons of Springdale, AR; and many cherished friends. During WWII, Ernest was an M/Sgt. In the U.S. Army serving in Italy and North Africa. He worked as a CPA in San Antonio and Odessa and was a price analyst for the U.S. Air Force in San Antonio for many years. Ernest and his wife Cleo led an exemplary life and were an inspiration to others. He was a life-long Christian and a deacon in the First Baptist Church of Burton. He loved the Lord and his family. He was a former city councilman of Burton. His family wishes to thank his pastor and good friend, Jack Broadwater and his caring church friends, also his housekeepers, Mary and Vinita Neutzler and the staff of Kruse Memorial Lutheran Village in Brenham. The funeral service will be at 10:00 a.m. Monday, Aug. 1 in First Baptist Church in Burton. Burial will be in Mt. Zion Cemetery. The family will receive visitors from 7:00-9:00 p.m. Saturday, July 30 in Memorial Oaks Chapel. Memorials may be given to First Baptist Church in Burton. Funeral arrangements are entrusted to Memorial Oaks Chapel, 1306 W. Main St., in Brenham.
