James Dean Lowery, 79, of Brenham, husband of Evva Irene Smith Lowery, died June 26, 2009 in College Station. Mr. Lowery was born November 23, 1929 in Houston, Texas to M. O. Lowery and Lenna Grace Holt Lowery. He was married to Evva Irene Smith on October 12, 1957 in Big Spring, Texas, He attended Cy-Fair area schools, and was a retired rice farmer. He served in the U. S. Army during the Korean War. He is survived by his wife, Evva Lowery of Brenham; daughters and sons-in-law Lynda and Bill Sherland of Canyon Lake, Carol Jean and David Sowers of Washington, Janet Dean and Moe Dozier of Waco, and Teresa and Keith Groen of Krum; brothers Gerald Lowery and Billie Lowery, both of Cypress, Derrol Lowery of Mobile, Alabama, and Brian Lowery of Tow, Texas. He is further survived by eleven grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and nephew Michael Derrol Lowery. Mr. Lowery was a member of the First Baptist Church of Chappell Hill. He loved his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He enjoyed restoring antique tractors and engines, and was a member of the Early Day Gas Engine and Tractor Association. He also loved farming with his dad and brothers, training cutting horses, ranching, and telling a good story. A favorite pastime was playing the fiddle; he truly enjoyed listening to and playing music. A graveside service will be held Monday at 11:00 a.m. in Atkinson Cemetery in Chappell Hill, to be followed by a memorial service at 2:00 p.m. at the First Baptist Church in Chappell Hill. Rev. David Beckworth will officiate. A visitation with family and friends will be held from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. Sunday at Memorial Oaks Chapel.
