James Mccoy

James McCoy, 88, husband of Mary Fox McCoy, died July 28, 2014 at Scott and White Hospital in Brenham. Funeral services are scheduled for 10:30 a.m., Thursday, July 31, 2014 at Bethlehem Lutheran Church of William Penn. Pastor Mark Moldenhauer will officiate. Burial will take place in the church cemetery. James McCoy was born July 30, 1925 in Dennison, Texas to Andrew and Winifred Davis McCoy. He served in the U. S. Navy during World War II. On Dec. 17, 1948, he was married to Mary Fox in Dallas. Jim graduated from Southern Methodist University in 1951 and was employed by Sun Oil Co. as a petroleum engineer for 20 years. Following that career, Jim worked for Mobil Oil in Libya and Saudi Arabia. After retirement, he worked as a consultant for the Environmental Protection Agency. Jim was an amateur radio operator and spent many years teaching Morse Code to Boy Scouts. He loved education and went to school most of his life. He was an elder in the Lutheran Church and an ordained Stephens Minister. Jim played and enjoyed music all of his life. After moving to Kruse Village in 2000, he played and sang music with Ms. Lou Lou Barbour at all the Brenham area nursing homes. Survivors include his wife, Mary McCoy of Brenham; daughter Melanie Kay McClenathen of Houston, and a grandson, Russell James McClenathen. Mr. McCoy was preceded in death by his parents, a son, Michael McCoy, two brothers and four sisters. Funeral arrangements for James McCoy are entrusted to Memorial Oaks Chapel, 1306 W. Main, Brenham.
