James D Rothermel, Age 99 years and 339 days, Passed away July 26,2018. He was born August 20, 1918, Burton, Texas, Son of Bailleux and Nathalie Ponfick Rothermel.
James attended Burton Public Schools and was a 1938 graduate of Brenham High School. He attended National Youth Administration Education and Work Program at Inks Dam in Burnet, Texas. He was a Construction Painter at Corpus Christi U.S. Naval Base, Corpus Christi, Texas. He enlisted in the Navy March 24, 1942, and was assigned to the 14th U.S. Navy Construction Battalion (Seabees) during WWII. He was a construction painter attaining the rank of Painter First Class serving at Noumea Caladonia, Guadalcanal, Hawaii, Saipan, and Okinawa. James graduated from Blinn College and graduated from Southwest Texas State Teacher’s College with Bachelors and Master Degrees. He devoted 29 years to the field of education. James retired from San Jacinto College, Pasadena, Texas in 1978 as Chairman , Division of Business Administration Department. Prior to that he was Principal of Ganado ISD High School from 1957-1964, Principal of Schulenberg ISD High School from 1952-1957, and Class Room Teacher at Brenham High School 1950-1953. On September 12, 2012 he was awarded Brenham ISD Distinguished Alumni Award.
On August24, 1947 he married Dorothy Ann Hodde at St Paul’s Lutheran Church of Brenham Texas. They kissed and said a blessing to God every night of their marriage until he passed away.
He is survived by his wife Dorothy Ann, sons; James D Rothermel Jr. and wife, Cindy of Alvin Texas and Donald H Rothermel. and wife, Debbie Ann of Katy, Texas, grandchildren; Matthew Rothermel and wife Rachel, of Deer Park, Texas, Megan (Rothermel) Kaup and husband Paul of League City, Texas, Bailleux Rothermel of Marysville, California, Abraham Rothermel of Houston, Texas, and Nathaniel Rothermel of College Station, Texas, step grandson, Chaz Clemons (James Jr.) of Alvin, Texas, great grandchildren, Abigail and Maddison Ashley (Matthew), Paul Jameson and (soon to be be) Lincoln Kaup (Megan) . He is also survived by sister-in-laws Dorothy G Rothermel and Joanie Rothermel, each from Brenham, Texas.
He was proceeded in death by his parents, infant sister Mary Louise, sister, Nathalie Landua and her husband Charles Landua Sr., sister, Annie Laurie Thaler and husband Raymond Thaler, brothers William A. Rothermel and Thomas H. Rothermel.
Funeral Arrangements have been entrusted to Memorial Oaks Chapel, 1306 W. Main Street, Brenham, Texas and a wake will be held at the chapel, 5:30 to 7:30 Pm on Tuesday July 31,2018
Funeral services will be held at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, 305 W 3rd St, Brenham, TX 77833 at 10 AM on Wednesday, August 1,2018. Burial will be at Prairie Lea Cemetery with military honors. Reception will be at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church Fellowship Hall immediately following graveside service.
