Janet Mills

Janet Heidemann Mills, 89, of Brenham passed away on September 10, 2024.

A visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, September 17, 2024 at Memorial Oaks Chapel. A Funeral Service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, September 18, 2024 at Memorial Oaks Chapel with burial following at St. James Lutheran Church Cemetery at New Wehdem. 

Janet was born on August 24, 1935 to Otto Heidemann, Sr. and Esther Kaase Heideman. She attended New Wehdem Schools and on December 4, 1976 she was united in marriage to Clarence Mills. 

Janet loved people and made her living cooking for them. While she owned and worked at many cafes in Brenham and Oklahoma, she started and ended her career at Santa Fe Café in Brenham. 

For the past seven years, she lived in Brenham Nursing and Rehabilitation Center and enjoyed playing dominos and visiting with her friends there. Special thanks to the kind nurses and staff who took care of her there and to Brazos Valley Hospice for watching over her the last week. 

She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Douglas and Nancy Herms; son, Gary Mills; stepdaughter, Tammy Lyons; sister, Ruby Heidemann Kubeczka; sister-in-law, Mary Alice Burks. Grandchildren, Justin Herms, Shelby Herms Peschel, Kaley Herms, Kullen Herms; step-granddaughter, Laura Lee Lyons. Great-grandchildren, Jaxon and Rheagan Peschel; step-great grandsons, Mark Anthony Lyons-Reese and Maco Lee Reese.  

She was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence Mills; parents, Otto and Esther Heidemann, Sr.; brothers, Louis and Otto Heidemann, Jr.; sister, Glendeane Heidemann Roemer; son, Darrell Herms. 

Pallbearers will be Kullen Herms, Justin Herms, Doyle Roemer, Bruce Roemer, Greg Kubeczka and Todd Heidemann. 

In lieu of flowers, those wishing to honor Janet can do so by making a memorial contribution to the St. James Lutheran Church of New Wehdem.
