Janette Elsie Schoenberg Schmidt, 86, of Brenham, died January 11, 2011, at College Station Medical Center. Visitation with the family will be from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Thursday, January 13 at Memorial Oaks Chapel. The funeral service will be at 2:30 p.m. Friday, January 14, at the chapel in Kruse Memorial Lutheran Village in Brenham with Pastor John David Nedbalek officiating. A private graveside service will be held for the family. Mrs. Schmidt was born December 7, 1924 in Washington County, Texas, to Will and Ida Kieke Schoenberg. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. On December 20, 1947, she was married to Ruben Schmidt in Martin Luther Lutheran Church in Carmine. During her lifetime, she worked at various jobs including KWHI radio station in Brenham and Brenham Coca-Cola. She was very active in her church, including membership in Women of the ELCA, visiting, doing memorials and providing and serving food for special occasions. Survivors include her husband, Ruben Schmidt of Brenham; sisters, Mabel Schmidt, Pearlie Jaster, Idell Kraus and Willie Mae Lueckemeyer and husband Odell; brother and sister-in-law, Marvin and Mary Schmidt; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her mother, father, brothers-in-law Nolan Schmidt, Elvis Jaster, Pete Kraus, and nephews Jerry Schmidt and John David Lueckemeyer. Memorials may be given to Bethlehem Lutheran Church of Round Top, or to theTexas Heart Institution Foundation, P.O. Box 4149, Houston, TX 77210-9886.
