Martin Jaysin Lackey, 40, husband of Melissa Taylor Lackey, died August 24, 2009. Born in Galveston, Texas on October 1, 1968 to Martin Nathaniel and Brenda Radler Lackey, he graduated from Santa Fe High School in 1987. He attended Southwestern College in Winfield, Kansas on an athletic scholarship, where he played football. He then went on to Cisco Junior College to play football, and concluded his education at Stephen F. Austin State University in Nacogdoches, Texas. On October 10, 1992, he married Melissa Taylor in Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Hitchcock. After 20 years of working in the grain industry alongside his brother, and father, in the family-owned business, Jaysin was able to realize his dream and became part-owner with his parents of the Diamond L Ranch. Jaysin found great joy working on the ranch with his father on a daily basis. Jaysin was a true sportsman, and loved all sports, especially football, baseball, golf, and hunting. He played sports from an early age, and later was involved with his own children in youth sports, coaching and supporting them. He shared many memorable hunting trips with his sons, brother, father, and beloved nephews. Jaysin''s favorite times were spent with his family. Survivors include his wife, Melissa Lackey; sons Justin and Jase Lackey; daughter Jordan Lackey; parents, Martin and Brenda Lackey; brother and sister-in-law Kase and Joanne Lackey, and their children Jake, John, Kase, and Katy Lackey of Santa Fe; sister and brother-in-law Diane and Robert Smith and children Michael, Jaysin and William of Santa Fe, and also sister Ronda Neumann and her children, Matthew and Ty; grandmothers, Dora Lackey Bosworth of Dickinson, and Bernice Seale, of Hitchcock. He is also survived by numerous loving aunts, uncles, and cousins. Those who knew Jaysin, or visited the Diamond L Ranch, know that he had a smile and a warm welcome for all. He will be dearly missed. Funeral services for Martin Jaysin Lackey will he beld Thursday, August 27, 2009 at 10:00 a.m. at St. John Lutheran Church of Prairie Hill, with Pastor David Hansen officiating. The family will receive friends and relations Wednesday evening from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. at Memorial Oaks Chapel. A memorial service will be held Monday, August 31, 2009 at 6:00 p.m. at the Crowder Funeral Home in Dickinson, Texas. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Memorial Oaks Chapel.
