Jeanette Gaskamp

Jeanette Schovajsa Gaskamp, 70, wife of Vernon Gaskamp, died June 28, 2012 in Houston. Funeral services are scheduled for 2 p.m., Monday, July 2, 2012 at Nelsonville Brethren Church with Pastor Michael Groseclose officiating. Burial will follow in National Cemetery in Nelsonville. The family will receive friends and relatives Sunday evening from 5 until 7 p.m. at Memorial Oaks Chapel. Jeanette was born November 27, 1941 to Benjamin and Sadie Susen Schovajsa in Bleiblerville. She was baptized in May of 1942 in Nelsonville Brethren Church and confirmed there July 31, 1954. She attended Austin Co. schools, graduated from Bellville High School in 1960, and then attended Blinn College. On April 4, 1964, she was married to Vernon Gaskamp in the Nelsonville Brethren Church by Rev. Henry Beseda. Jeanette was employed as a food service worker at Brenham High School for 23 years. She enjoyed sewing, cross-stitch, reading and tending to her garden, and especially treasured time spent with her family. Survivors include her husband, Vernon Gaskamp of Brenham; sons Brian Gaskamp and wife Stacey, and Bruce Gaskamp, all of Brenham; sisters-in-law Erna and Olivia Gaskamp, and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents, Benjamin and Sadie Schovajsa. Serving as pallbearers are Larry and Rob Gaskamp, Sherry Barham, Diana Glenz, Jerrell Schovajsa, and Donald Schovajsa. Honorary pallbearers are all food service workers at Brenham High School, as well as Ray Weiss. Memorials may be directed to Nelsonville Brethren Church or to any favorite charity.
