Jerry Maass, 53, husband of Ruth Franke Maass, of Brenham, passed away May 9, 2008. Mr. Maass was born January 5, 1955 to Walter and LeViola Lorenz Maass in Brenham. He was baptized February 27, 1955 by Pastor R. J. Weber in Zion Lutheran Church, and confirmed by Pastor Richard J. Weber on March 30, 1969, also at Zion Lutheran Church. He was educated in Washington County schools. On June 25, 1977, he married Ruth Ann Franke in Eben-Ezer Lutheran Church of Berlin. Mr. Maass was active as an usher in Zion Lutheran Church. A favorite hobby was restoring vehicles, and he was an all-around handyman. He enjoyed working on his tractors, a Farmall B and Farmall Super M and kept them in tip-top shape. He loved to fish, hunt, and travel, and he cherished time spent with family and friends. Survivors include his wife of 30 years, Ruth Franke Maass; mother, LeViola Maass; sons, Jason Maass and wife Emily of College Station, and Jeffrey Maass of Brenham, as well as one unborn grandchild; mother-in-law Selma Franke of Brenham, aunts: Elsie Brennan, Ella Mae Niemann, Ella Lorenz, Evelyn Lorenz; brothers and sisters-in-law: Daniel and Betty Goerlitz and Charles and Angela Franke, Sr.; nieces and nephews-in-law Kevin and Tammy Burnett, Franklin and Shawna Goerlitz, Steve and Olivia Borgstedt, Melissa and Troy Grimm, Charles Franke, Jr. and Joe and Erin Shell, as well as numerous great-nieces, nephews-in-law, family and friends. He was preceded in death by his father, Walter Maass; father-in-law Herman Franke; aunts and uncles, Walter and Erna Winkelmann, Lillie and Edward Kokemor, Alvin Lorenz, Erwin Pieper, Ted Niemann, Edward Brennan, Mamie and Willie Kokemor; and cousins, Roger Kokemor, Ora Nell Murski, Elroy Kokemor and Milford Kokemor. Funeral services for Jerry Maass will be held Tuesday, May 13, 2008 at 2:00 p.m. at Zion Lutheran Church with Pastor David Hall officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation with family and friends will take place from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. on Monday, May 12 at Memorial Oaks Chapel. Serving as pallbearers are Gary Wagner, Franklin Goerlitz, Charles Franke, Jr., Mark Niemann, Darrell Murski, and Roy Boehnemann. His confirmation class, the 1973 Burton High School graduating class, and Southern Care Hospice staff are named as honorary pallbearers. Memorial contributions should be directed to Zion Lutheran Church, to the Huntington Disease Foundation, or to a charity of your choice.
