Jerry Joe Vaughn, 84, passed away on March 23, 2025. Jerry was born on July 24,1940 in the Zionville Community to Pierson and Mildred "Lange" Vaughn.
Jerry was a proud graduate of Brenham High School, Class of 1958, where he was a member of the high school football team. He loved telling stories to his family and friends about his high school days of playing football with his buddies.
After high school Jerry went to only one day of college and decided it was not for him, so he went to work for LCRA which later became Bluebonnet Electric Co-op for the next 35+ years. He enjoyed working with his fellow employees; many who became lifetime friends. Throughout his time at Bluebonnet, he met people in rural Washington and Austin counties helping them with their electricity needs. Again, he made lifelong friends in the communities of Bleiberville and New Ulm.
On February 19, 1961, Jerry married his partner for life, Bernice Hinze, at Zion Lutheran Church in Zionsville. Together, they raised 2 daughters. When the girls became active in 4-H showing animals, Jerry was there to build the pens and haul the animals to the shows for them and other 4-Hers. He made friends easily with people across the state and touched many lives.
In the 1980's Jerry and Bernice started raising hogs. For 20+ years they traveled together to livestock shows and pig farms throughout the country seeing new places and meeting many "good people" as Jerry would often say.
After retirement Jerry's last venture was owner of the Green Door in Greenvine for 25+ years. He loved meeting people and being part of the community. He truly loved "the store" and people who stopped there.
Jerry is preceded in death by his parents, his brother, Jodie Vaughn, brothers-in-law Glenwood Vierus, Herbert Hinze, Billy Spinn and James Hinze and sister-in-law Nancy Hinze. Left to cherish Jerry's memory is his loving wife of 64 years, Bernice, his daughters, Belinda (Roderic) Vincent and Debra "Wellman" and Rocky Rhodes, brother, James (Karon) Vaughn and sister-in-law, Diane Vaughn, granddaughter, Ashley (Tom) Del Zoppo and great granddaughter, Rosabella Del Zoppo, sisters-in-law Betty Vierus, Margie Spinn and Trudi Hinze and sisters and brothers in law, Carolyn and Ronny Nazarian and Dotsy and Ronnie Luhn, along with numerous nieces and nephews.
