Jesusa De Los Santos Martinez, known as "Mama Susie", age 84, died on April 25, 2021 in Brenham, Texas. Visitation will be from 7a.m. to 7 p.m. on Thursday, April 29, 2021 at Memorial Oaks Chapel in Brenham, Texas. The family will be present for a funeral and prayer service at 1 p.m.
Jesusa was born to Eginio and Primetiva Estrada De Los Santos on June, 19,1936 in Corpus Christi, Texas. She married Jose R. Martinez. For many years she was a homemaker and stay at home mother to their ten children. Jesusa was the best mom and grandma ever. She will be greatly missed by all her family. Her tamales were legendary, and many locals knew her as the “tamale lady”.
In later years she began work as a CNA and caregiver at a local nursing home. Jesusa enjoyed spending time at “the office” – her hangout at K & M Grocery. She spent many happy hours at K & M, enjoying her favorite snacks (Cheetos and cold beer) and some good laughs and conversation with her friends.
She is survived by her sister Sylvia Vega; sons and daughters-in-law Juan (Tina) Martinez of Conroe; Selso (Yeni) Martinez Sr. of Houston; Alfredo (Renee) Martinez of Brenham and David Martinez of Brenham; her daughters and sons-in-law Olivia (Ricky) Sauceda of Porter; Victoria (Juan) Perez of Brenham; Mally (Robert) Arrellano of Paige; Maggie (Steven) Kelm of Brenham; her grandchildren: Gloria, Gracie, Guadalupe Jr., Paula, Max, Juan, Mary Helen, Frank, Jessica, Ricky Jr., Roxanne, Stefanie, Joanne, Vicky, Juan, Michael, Selso Jr., Magadalena, Samantha, Leo, Danny, Angie, Terrance, Tommy, Mercedes, Victor, Frank, Benito, Nicholas, Lexus, Elvia, Jennifer, Crystal, Kyle, Destiny, and David, Jr. Great grandchildren and Great-great grandchildren number 98, making the Martinez family 144 strong.
Jesusa is preceded in death by her husband Jose, her late significant other James Sackett, her brothers, sons Guadalupe Martinez Sr. and Joe Martinez, and some of her grandchildren: Stephen Ferrel III, Sophia M. Ferrel, Maricella Gonzalez, Haley Gonzalez and Baby CJ.
