Jimmie Deane Cox

August 1, 1944 — February 16, 2024

It has pleased almighty God to summon to Himself the soul of James Deane Cox on February 16, 2024.  Named after her father, an enlisted soldier fighting in WWII, “Jimmie Deane” was born on August 1, 1944 to Evelyn Steele and James B. Mullen in Natchez, Mississippi. As an only child, her parents faithfully brought her to the waters of Holy Baptism and confirmation on March 22, 1959, at Trinity Lutheran Church, La Marque, Texas, officiated by Rev. T.J. Roth. She attended public schools in Galveston and La Marque, Texas, graduating from La Marque High School in 1962. Jimmie Deane’s employment spanned American National Insurance, Union Carbide, IBM, King of Kings Lutheran Church, Cokesbury Methodist Church, and Uncle Ben’s, Inc. She retired from Uncle Ben’s Personnel & Organization division in 1997.

Jimmie Deane was united in holy matrimony with Robert C. Cox on April 25, 1964, at Trinity Lutheran Church, La Marque, Texas, by Rev. Paul G. Wilson. Their marriage was blessed with two children, Jodi Lynn and Jeffrey Alan. Bob and Jimmie Deane lived in the Sagemont Park area of Houston for 26 years and were members of King of Kings Lutheran Church and Mt. Olive Lutheran Church of Houston, Texas. After their retirement, they moved to Brenham in 2004 and joined the congregation of Grace Lutheran Church. Jimmie Deane was a member of the Grace Lutheran Afternoon Circle and served as Service Committee Chairman, Reporter, and Turkey Supper Chairman. She enjoyed gardening, cooking, and sewing, but that is an understatement of her abilities. She was a naturally gifted organizer and renowned for both her gardening green thumb and her culinary prowess. She was a consummate party planner and was generous with her time and resources. Her favorite pastime was being with her children and adored grandchildren. She was truly the very best mother and grandmother!

Jimmie Deane was preceded in death by her husband, Robert, and her parents Evelyn and James B. Mullen, and her grandparents, Claude and Jeannette Mullen and Pauline and Jesse Steele.

Surviving and mourning her loss are her children and their spouses, Jodi and Dave Guerra and Jeff and Victoria Cox; grandchildren Luke, Paulina, Danielle, and Stephen Guerra and Ashley Cox; sister-in-law Betty Cox, nieces and nephews Mike Cox, Greg Cox, Leslie Diver, Kim Fisher, Kelli Cox-Gill, and Kacee Ramirez.

Serving as pallbearers are Jeff Cox, Dave Guerra, Luke Guerra, Stephen Guerra, and Joe Lane.
