Joan Moore

Surrounded by her loving family, Joan Lewis Moore passed away peacefully in her home in Brenham, Texas on July 8th, 2016.

Joan was born in Hawaii on December 4, 1929 and graduated from Alamo Heights High School in San Antonio, Texas. She attended Mary Baldwin College and later transferred to The University of Texas where she was a proud member of Zeta Tau Alpha. Joan was an Order of the Alamo Duchess and presented as a German Club Debutante.

While in Austin, Joan met the love of her life and husband of 63 years, Gordon Moore. Joan and Gordon lived in Houston for many years and traveled the world prior to retiring to their beloved ranch in Brenham, Texas where she loved entertaining friends and having dinner parties. Joan was an active member of the Houston Junior League, the Brown Thumb Garden Club, the Antique Study Group, and the Houston Country Club. Joan was a docent at the Museum of Fine Arts, Bayou Bend and the Museum of Natural Science in Houston. She was a devout member of St. John the Divine Episcopal Church,
St. Martin's Episcopal Church and St. Peter's Episcopal Church in Brenham. She was the benefactor of many causes and was always eager to volunteer to help with whatever cause. For a five year period she was a realtor with John Goss Realtors in Houston. In Brenham, Joan was a docent for the Independence Heritage Society and also worked at the Visitor's Center.

Joan came from a long line of senior military officers and was preceded in death by her father,
Brigadier General Thomas Edward Lewis. She was preceded in death also by her mother Lucille Witherspoon Lewis, her sister Ann "Tatty " Lewis Bailey, a sister, Dorothy Jordon of California, and her brother and sister-in-law Charles and Lamont Moore Parker.

Joan is survived by her loving husband, Gordon Moore, son Sealy Lewis Moore of Houston whom she adored; brother-in-law Austin W. Moore and sister-in-law Martha Moore of San Antonio and many nieces and nephews , Lloyd Whitfield Bailey, Linda Bailey Powers, Joan Lewis Bailey, Austin Wright Moore Jr., Marks W. Moore, Maggie Moore Kelly, Laura Parker Romano, Charles Parker, Joe Parker, Steve Parker and John Jordon.

In lieu of flowers , memorial contributions may be made to St. Peter's Episcopal Church.

The Memorial Service will be held Tuesday, July 12, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. at St. Peter's Episcopal Church
2310 Airline Drive, Brenham, Tx. 77833.
