Johanna Frances Vaughn Kelso, 94, of Brenham, widow of Homa Kelso, died March 20, 2010 in Trinity Medical Center. Johanna was born July 31, 1915 in Marietta, Oklahoma to Robert Alexander and Lillie Guzner Vaughn. During her childhood years, Johanna attended Mill Creek School in Washington County. On August 28, 1953, she married Homa Kelso in Liberty, Texas, and they lived for many years in Baytown, where she worked as a seamstress. She was devoted to her church, and was an active member of her quilting group. After evacuating from Baytown following Hurricane Rita, she moved to Brenham and resided at Gazebo Terrace Convalescent Center, where she became good friends with Alice Landgraf. Survivors include nephews and spouses Jerry and Bernice Vaughn, Jodie and Diane Vaughn, and James and Karen Vaughn; sister-in-law Mildred Ubernosky, as well as numerous great-nephews and great-nieces, and great-great nieces and great-great nephews. Preceding her in death was her husband, Homa Kelso in 1977, her parents, brothers Peirson Vaughn and Millard Vaughn. Graveside service for Johanna Frances Kelso will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, March 25, 2010 at Gonzales Memorial Park, Gonzales, Tx. Memorials may be directed to the American Cancer Society. Honorary pallbearers are Jerry Vaughn, James Vaughn, Jodie Vaughn, Frank Kelso, Rod Vincent, Eileen and Darwin Knox, Judy and Dr. Kenneth Landgraf, and Bernice Vaughn.
