John Val Dietz, 74, of Brenham, the husband of Gloria Pohl Dietz, died Saturday morning after suffering a massive cerebral hemorrhage, in St. Joseph s Hospital in Bryan. Mr. Dietz was born in Brenham, TX on May 3, 1932, the only child of John Val and Elsie Ott Dietz. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Paul s Evangelical Lutheran Church. He graduated from Brenham High School with the class of 1950. John started Texas A & M University that fall to study geological engineering, only to return to Brenham the following year upon the death of his father. It was then that he became a rancher. He attended Blinn Jr. College and also served for a time in the U. S. Army Reserve. He met and married Gloria Ann Pohl in 1958. He has been involved in numerous organizations such as: Brenham Young Farmers Chapter, Washington County Soil & Water Conservation District, Brenham Noon Lions Club, Brenham Independent School District Board Member, and Brenham National Bank Board of Directors, St. Paul s Evangelical Lutheran Church Council where he was a member, Berlin Mill Creek Volunteer Fire Department. He was a loyal supporter of the Brenham Cubs and Cubettes, the Boys and Girls Club and St. Paul s Christian Day School. His other interests and activities include being an entrepreneur and owning a go cart track, art gallery, travel agency and real estate businesses. His more recent interest were owning a thoroughbred race horse, he loved to travel, he supported his grand kids in many of their activities and spending time at his ranch in Chama, New Mexico. He was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife Gloria Pohl Dietz, daughters and sons-in-law Pam and Mitch Cooper of New Orleans, LA., Sharon and Shane Guelker of Brenham and Valeri and Patrick Klein of Brenham; grandchildren Kate Cooper, Madalyn Guelker, Pierson & John Val Klein. Mr. Dietz was a faithful and loyal friend and generous to those in need. He will be sincerely missed by his family and friends. The family will receive visitors from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. Sunday at Memorial Oaks Chapel. The funeral service for John Val Dietz will be held at 4:00 p.m. Monday in St. Paul s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Brenham with Pastors Lawrence Bade and Kim Little-Brooks officiating. Burial will follow in Prairie Lea Cemetery. Pall Bearers will be E. J. Hartman, Ron Alfred, Jimmy Becker, Donald Spiess, Marshall Harrell, Stanley Beard, Skipper Dippel, Paul Senff, Kermit Wahrmund, James Schroeder, Gus Mutscher and Otto Lehrmann. Honorary Pall Bearers will be Waldo Gaedke, Brenham National Bank officers, directors, employees and Noon Lions Club. In lieu of flowers donation can be made to the Boys and Girls Club of Washington County, the Brenham ISD Education Foundation or a local organization of your choice. Funeral arrangements are entrusted to Memorial Oaks Chapel, 1306 West Main, Brenham.
